I don't think anyone will take Microsoft's place in the Gaming Industry.

With Xbox leaving the gaming industry, I don't think another company will try to take it's place.
Maybe Steam will have another go at the Steam Box project, but Valve already have a major foothold in the gaming space.

But in the dedicated console sphere I think it's just going to stay as Sony & Nintendo. Not that I think this is some sort of dire situation though. I mean the 90s console war between Sega and Nintendo was brutal but resulted in fantastic games, and with Microsoft out the way I hope that Sony and Nintendo will concentrate on fighting each other for complete dominance and result on more great game for everyone.

What I don't see happening is another company trying to take Microsoft's place. Look at it this way, if Sony & Nintendo are so strong that not every infinite money Microsoft can beat them; what other company is going to be willing to take up that fight? Amazon have tried and failed, so have Google. I very much doubt any other company has the resources or the balls to even give it a go.

tbh i think sony might also be on its way out as well, and it will probably look like N vs Valve for the foreseeable future unless there is a really big shakeup like idk, samsung or ibm give console making a go for whatever reason AND it turns out to be a smash hit

The future is looking less and less console focused. I think we may see more mini-PCs dedicated to gaming start to crop up released by other companies, maybe even Microsoft themselves.

Sony and Nintendo don't really compete with each other anymore, they kind of cover different markets at this point. Neither one has good competition, which is bad for everyone involved. You've already seen things start to stagnate and dip in quality.

If MS getting out of consoles means they just publish everywhere, that's probably better longterm for them. As far as a new player in the game, they'll need time. When Sony was coming in, people were skeptical because they didn't have a background in games and didn't have Mario or Sonic. When Xbox was coming in, people were like, "durrr it'll bluescreen" or whatever. But you know who no one did that about? NEC.

Hudson themselves actually designed many of the chips. Over time Hudson was less and less involved with NEC and is basically what led to their downfall.

I think NEC mostly kept their business in Japan, but they where comparable in size to the other big computer manufacturers like IBM and HP.
