The live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon is incredibly faithful to the animated version in nearly every way, to the point that it could feel redundant to anyone who’s seen the original. But at the same time, writer/director Dean DeBlois’ re-creation of a story he first told 15 years ago shows he still has a lot of affection for this world and these characters, and that gives this How to Train Your Dragon an impressive amount of resonance. Within all its rigid recitation, there’s a heart and soul that demonstrates how DeBlois has managed to get so much mileage out of the loving story of a Viking boy and the dragon he befriends.

I don't really get the point of this film (or any live action remake of an animated film, really).
Sure, the original is REALLY ugly, but the story is still fine. Making a shot-for-shot remake in live action just feels like a waste of time and money at best, and a disrespect to the art of animation at worst.
Toothless is still as cute as ever, though.

I'm super excited for this, I'll probablygo see it this weekend. One of the only live action remakes I have any interest in seeing.

It's at least nice to know that there are people actually interested in films like this. I've always assumed they sort of just release and people watch them on a whim.

I'm not even a fan of the original movie. I'm willing to bet that the live action remake is yet another godawful travesty that bears the name "How to Train Your Dragon".

For me it's a nostalgia mixed with comfort at the time I saw the original. I've always been big into Dragons and I had no idea what the original was. I came home from Iraq for 2 weeks of R&R and my sister took me to see it.

And I'm glad it's a recreation, the Director saw all the shitty remakes Disney was putting out and pitched this so he could make a movie that was in the spirit of the original. So I'm happy it's Deblois who made it happen

I don't give credit to live action adaptations but this one caught my attention now. I'm a fan of How to Train Your Dragon movies. Well, the second one mostly. But I like the first one too. The third one was a letdown for me.

I doubt it's gonna match the animation, but I applaud the efforts to make it as likable and faithful as possible. Presumably so at least, I haven't watched it yet.

Apparently it's EXACTLY as the animated one. And being "live action" with most of it made in CGI makes me think even more "why tho", why make this one a "live action", it feels like the Pinocchio one where it was 99% digital and still got called "live action".
