When you do marathons you reach a point you don't want to play games of the same series anymore as we naturally tend to get bored of doing the same thing.

This is why I haven't finished to do all Wario Land nor Klonoa games for several years. I have found a way to slowly but surely do the rest of the franchise (thankfully both have few games in each) by making a list and motivating myself to do it.

Making lists (either on PC or in a physical notebook) is good to make a plan on the order of games to do. Next is to have the right mindset and motivation into doing them.

Finally: plan how many hours are required to complete it and indulge yourself to do a pause, it shouldn't be a daily job.

PS: Of course it's not the same for everybody but never get discouraged by the mountain of games in a backlog.

I used to try to marathon game series but never finished them or got halfway through the second or third game and burned out. Now I try not to play games in same series back to back or play 2 long RPGs at the same time. Branching out into a lot of diverse genres can also prevent burnout.

It depends of the series. I remember having done MGS and MGS 2 back-to-back but when I started Snake Eater I got bored...

These are waste of time to just finish long difficult/bored but attractive games series.

Im Use Cheats/trainers/mods to quikly run finished them for good.

YES this is a great method!!!

Avoid playing for 1 full month and then play again the following month.

For the small period I was avoiding screens completely (for about ~3 days), I felt a natural motivation to do stuff coming back to me. Wasn't motivation from pressuring myself, wasn't motivation that depended on really wanting something, it was just there.

I believe if I entered this mode again then allow myself to look at screens again in a restrictive manner, I would play certain games I otherwise just felt too "lazy" to get into.

Step One:
Gather resources so that you have plenty of food and supplies on hand
Step Two:
Absolve any prior plans and be sure to take time off work (if you have it) to game.
Step Three:
Dedicate yourself and your energy to getting through, do as good as you can as opposed to opting for risky strategies and anything that would keep you from beating the game sooner, that way you have the energy and motivation to get through your marathon.
