I used to be a pick it up, play only that, complete it and move on kind of guy (did that a lot on PS4 when I got back into some console titles like RDR2). Now that I have this huge library of games on my emulator, I’m trying out a lot of new things and honestly…it feels like I don’t beat many of them. ::raymanknowsBut I’m still having a lot of fun. I have titles I’ve been taking my time to beat bc I’m trying to complete them on Retroachievements and have to be more comprehensive. I also pick up a lot of games just to check out the pixel art for a while before eventually deleting them bc I can’t read anything in it lol.

How often do you complete the games you pick up? What is “complete” to you? Do you play a lot of things at once, or focus on less at a time?

I went from completing 60 games in one year, to barely 10, back to 40, back to 10. So it always depends on the year and what I do. I try to do as much as I can, sometimes go back and 100% old games I love. I’ve 100%ed around 40 games off the top of my head and plan to continue doing it.

I usually get bored even before reaching half of the story, figure complete it. Probably less than ten games in a year.
That would be my number too if I run into too many games in a row that I don’t vibe with.

Firstly, what does "complete" mean to me. Well, "complete" means getting 100%, while "finish" means seeing the credits roll. There are a few exceptions to that though.
For example, when the game pulls a fake credits halfway through the game in an attempt to make you think the second half of the game is just "post-game content". In such a scenario, I don't consider it finished until you've seen the real ending of the game.
Another example of an exception is when the game has a ridiculous amount of meaningless busywork. I mean if you've seen and done everything, with the only thing being left that you need to kill 10,000 of each monster for an achievement or something, you've pretty much completed it.

Mind you, I don't adhere strictly to my own definitions. It's too much effort always having to distinguish between the two. Besides, for most people, the two terms are completely interchangeable anyway.

Now as for how many games I tend to finish. Honestly, not that many.
Definitely more now than when I was younger. Most recently I've been going through the games I abandoned, and finishing them off. So this year alone, I've probably finished close to ten games already.
But I've always been more of a "move onto the next game when you get bored" kind of guy. Although considering I'm finishing more than when I was younger, I suppose my attention span must be growing. ::eggmanlaugh

Now as for how long it takes me to finish a game. Usually a month or two.
I mean, most games seem to be around 30 hours. And I'll usually spend an hour or two playing it on most days. It adds up quickly. So that's like what... maybe ten a year?

As for getting 100% completion. I don't really aim for that unless it's a game I really REALLY like, or getting 100% is really REALLY easy.
I just don't find it fun to do busywork. Which is kind of odd for me, considering I do find it fun to grind. I'm not sure what the difference is, but apparently there must be one.

having access to a lot and also leading a kind of busy life means im not completing very many games. already just this year alone i topped last years count of finished gamea cos i didnt beat any of em, or i started playing n finished after the new year

How often do I complete my Games nowadays hmm
I complete them sometimes
Nervous Key And Peele GIF

I haven't completed a game in years.

I think that's an unintended side-effect of my early gig as a game reviewer: play fast, get all the key points out of the way, drop it.
That’s fair. It does become easy to spot patterns after a while, after which predictability becomes inevitable.

Always! Seriously always.
I won't start a game to don't finish it.
Maybe drop it for a while but I should finish it.
Well lately finish games become something like.....a sin to me🙂.
Well Sure the same with me technically.Sooner or later i will finish them in my life time that is.Jokes aside I try to Finish my Games also if i don't get distracted its just bad if I am quite far in a Game and don't play it in a while just to loose all my skills i had in the game and be turned into a mop by the enemies.

I like to go through the whole main story/route/scenario/campaign, and maybe do as much side content as possible, and then just finish when I think its enough, which depends on a game to game basis.

I don't care about achievements, so i don't use them as a metric, and I rarely bother with busywork, or side stuff which doesn't give more story or more characterization rewards.

And, I am fairly consistent on finishing games.

The only reasons I would drop a game for, its either because I hate it, or if something catastrophic happens (like loosing save files) and I can't be arsed to do it again.

Although these days, I have noticed I play less RPGs, because they usually take too long. But, I still go through long VNs...

Recently, I've tried finishing old PS1 games, some PSP games as well, but the cruel but undefying factor of growing up has taken its toll.::dkfacepalm

Reminded me of my dark souls run....the horrors.

Losing skill happend a lot! Definitely when you play games have different keys.
This hapend to me when I played evil within the ds1. I get to much space use for doors....well just imagine press space to get item and fall down from edge.....

Its Especially painful when you are far in the game where it doesn't show any mercy nor holding back anymore.I hate when i have to re learn all my skills with late stage enemies that never forget there moves and skills.

Ahhhhh... completing games is like life
for me
is just like my life
a complete
work
in progress :3

yeah asjasdjjasd i barely finish anything these days and the one that i complete... are replays of the same stuff :P

Last year was 21. The year before was 43. Apparently I complete a lot. This year so far is nine. A number of these are just things I was at or around the final boss for for serval years for. While I count them, 99% of the work was done before I got there.

That's why I have a large collection of quick saves! I can see the story scenario or part I like again.
I have a large one for final fantasy 1 and 2,Pokémon red and other food games of gba
(*remember red version*)
Did you know there is a girl on this game had "Ali" as name and says"persian are cute!" Still confuse for them and fill regret for thinking about it.
(*me watching Alfred hichkake in intro of pyscho*)
Oh not again!

Ahhh I hate when they do that. Even if the game is identical aside from when the credits roll, I prefer a larger “game” and smaller “post-game”. Keeps me invested longer. Seeing the credits roll makes my hamster brain think all the fun is over. :-(

Heehee I love busywork and hate the grind and yeah even when I think about it it’s not that different. I think I just prefer pacifist busywork like cleaning poop and feeding cultists vs busywork in grinding like dungeon delving and….oh wait now I’m just thinking of cult of the lamb, and I loved everything about that game. :loldog First game I 100% completed on steam (aside from to the moon, with 1/1 achievements, which doesn’t count), first game I achievement hunted for.

The Feeling when you look at your not Completed games when they stare right back at you judging you.
I was asked last week how many games are in my backlog and I just laughed and was like idk, 1000? Bc I go ROM crazy and download a bunch of shit then I’m like “Well of course you have to play them all at least for a few minutes! :-D” so for ages I’ve just been digging holes in the desert as the sand continues to spill in, endlessly.

Also I love 80s and 90s shovelware!!! It’s a passion of mine! They need a chance too

That would be Rockman EXE 4.5.
I’m going to give that a shot this evening to see what a bad megaman game is like lol. I’ve been trying some out, I had never played megaman before like last year maybe

I usually play only one game at a time until i finish it.
However, i might "taste" other games while playing a long one.
Tasting usually takes anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours... and helps me decide on the next game i plan to play.

As for what "complete" means to me, it's usually when i feel the game doesn't have much more to offer.
For some games, it means simply reaching the credits, while for a very few, it means achieving 100% completion.
Most of the time, though, it's somewhere in between.
