The poll is multi-choice, of course.

I've been wearing glasses since the third grade; genetics will do that to you. It got progressively worse along the following years, until I finished growing and my eyes settled into the "heavily short-sighted" territory. Then, a few days ago, I realized things got blurrier when I got them close to my face, which is... Not how things used to go.

So hey, fellow nerds, how fucked up are your eyeballs?

Just realized nearsighted and short-sighted are the same thing. Not my best move.

Very fucked up. I have the one-two whammy of near-sightedness running cleanly through both strands of the family and being a bookworm from a young age, so my poor little retinas never stood a chance. I used to read by the moonlight in the dead of night, every single evening, from age 6-10, I played handheld games right up close, and I sat directly in front of the TV whenever I was watching it. I always ignored my dad's guidance to stop all that nonsense, and now here I am.

Oxyhime, I've got you beat, because I've worn corrective lenses since the second grade and can no longer remember a time when I didn't have a piece of plastic and glass attached to my face. I don't really mind – they've been a part of me way longer than when they weren't – but the second I can get my eyeballs replaced with Tesla-McDonald's Cyber-Modules™, I'm doing it.

I'm also doubly at risk for a retinal detachment in both eyes, and several of my family members have already experienced that. Oh, and the length of time I’ve worn high-powered glasses essentially guarantees cataracts later in life. Joy!

Can't even read what's on t shirts without my 7.50 contacts

You definitely have me beat. The worst I have to look forward to is thick(er) glasses and early cataracts.

I definitely relate with what you're describing, though. The reading-with-not-enough-light, the not-caring-about-eye-strain. And then comes the "finding out" part of "fuck around and find out".

I'm so myopic that I need glasses to read text on the computer screen. I refuse to wear them, though, because I can't stand having to clean those assholes. Tbh, I kinda scared of going blind when I grow old.

Oh yeah, I also have a slight case of strabismus.

Well, I'm nearsighted but I read this at first as "How messed up are you guys?" So I guess I have some other issues

Taking care of oneself is complicated, but if you're supposed to be wearing correction for your eyes, I can promise you, you're making your life easier by getting used to it earlier rather than later, especially when you're alone on your computer.

I think that might be the other thread... Being visually impaired really is something that can mess you up, though.

Astigmatism, although i only wear glasses when i am reading, or doing things in my PC.

Strabismus starting at six years, however due to not being too obvious it wasn't treated, my sight was kinda fuzzy, it wasn't until 2022 i got my strabismus surgery, but it was too late, while i see better, the eyes are now permanently crooked, still they are better than when i was a kid

About 2 years ago I was told I have macular degeneration and since then my vision has gone down hill significantly. For all intents and purposes nobody close to me knows the severity of it and I lie to myself often about it as well.

I need reading glasses since around 10 years ago, started in the beginning of my 40s, but that's kind of normal. I can see far still fantastic though.

I'm also colorblind, we found out when I was studying electronics and the color rings of the resistors became a challenge for me and I mostly got them wrong, so I had to stop with electronics which brought me to IT.

I don't know which kind of colorblindness it is though, I have problems with red/green/brown, and sometimes also with blue/purple. The smaller the object, the worse it is. I never use colorblind mode in games though. I just remember that in The Witcher 3 I had to change the senses to blue instead of red as I couldn't really track anything with red on the green ground.

I found out when I went to the eye doctor and I couldn't see any number in the Ishihara test, at all. I saw numbers in those that are meant for colorblind people, where a "normal" person doesn't see any number. Quite funny.

I see the world in color, and I can also see that the grass is green and the communist flag is red, but when it comes to small details and nuances then it gets difficult. Nothing life changing though, living with it forever now. Only thing not to do though, if you meet a girl and tell her that she's wearing a really nice green dress, just omit the green and make it a really nice dress :-D

My vision is (mostly) fine, but sometimes I misread words as other words.

Not perfect, but almost there. When I was young I used to wear glasses, but then I'm gone under eye surgery because wearing them were annoying due to my OCD.

i eat carrots every morning as a juice mixed with grapes and little sugar that's why i don't have problem, and i own 3ds xl but i never used its 3d feature

Pretty bad. I can't read up-close. I used to get migraines from straining my eyes to read stuff without glasses.

Now I have bifocals! I'm an official old lady!

Bonus; The first time as an adult I went to get glasses, when they checked my eyes the technician asked 'you don't drive, do you?'
