How did your favorite game become your favorite game?

Haha, nice. Wicked truth is I have never finished a Zelda game! But I have gained ground in several of them, I enjoy Oracle of Seasons/Ages a lot. I'm also a big fan of Mega Man 8 - Anniversary Edition on PS1.

This gave me a good chuckle because my dad has no idea what an emulator is.
Really XD?

Final Fantasy 4 grew into my favorite game mostly due to being forced to replay it numerous times
Every console I've played it on, my PS2, my PS3, my PSP, and even a GBA emulator has somehow died once I reached the Moon.
My PS2's laser burnt out and the memory card failed, my PS3's emulation of the PSX's video bugged out and the game became unplayable, my PSP's battery exploded, and 2 laptops I emulated it on got destroyed right as I reached the Moon.
Eventually I fixed the PS2 and finally beat that omen of death.
It was incredibly worth it and I'm replaying it on my steam deck. Fingers crossed it doesn't explode.

When I first played starcraft I though it was red alert 2, and couldn't wait untill I can barricade individual marines. That never happened but I kept playing cause every battle in that game was epic. Later I tracked down and played red alert 2 and realized that neither barricading the soldiers nor the giant squids that sink giant battleships are as good, when none of the battles are so epic. Then much later I discovered the competitive scene, and watched turnaments, and every battle was still as epic. To this day every time I play it there is a battle that is epic in a way no battle has been before. Still not good enough to beat the expansion compaign.

Honorable mentions:
When I first played diablo 1 I though it was diablo 2 and couldn't wait until I get glowy sword or book to put scrolls in. Game was so fun I completely forgot about those until I actually got diablo 2 and playing it realized that the only thing good about that game is putting scrolls in books everything else was better in diablo 1, even glowy sword was kind of meh. I realized I prefer skill based rpgs to class based rpgs, and to this day haven't found anything that beats diablo, the elder scrolls came close but spells in those games just suck.

When I first played chaos legion I thought it was... well there is no other game like it, so what I actually though was that whoever made that game was technically better at making games than anybody else, cause swinging a sword felt like actually swinging a sword, and not some abstract representation of swinging a sword. From then on I bough every game that had capcom written on it and for a while I was right - all of them did something technically exceptional that nobody else could (dmc 3, RE 4, Lost Planet), yet to this day I haven't found a game that can swing a sword as well as chaos legion can.

When I first played chronicels of riddick I felt like I was riddick.

When I first played fear I felt cooler than riddick, though I haven't yet felt like riddick at that point.

Shantae and the pirates curse --

i was invited to a birthday party because my friend wanted to introduce me to her friends who worked at wayforward. I had never heard of wayforward before, and sadly they didnt make it to the party, but i had just gotten a 3ds and they had just released pirates curse, so i bought a copy, and i LOOOVE that game.

Chrono Trigger --

1995 i saw the box at kaybee toys and i had 50 dollars... best 50 dollars i ever spent. i had never heard of the game before i bought it!!

Silhouette Mirage; it was a culmination of small changes in the classic 2D platform formula (similar to Mischief Makers the mechanic of grabbing object, but I didn't own a N64) that took it to the next level at a time video games were drastically moving towards full 3D realms. The quirky overall design, improved system mechanics, unique attributes of switching sides/colors quickly won me over.

Bulk Slash; has everything I love in video games running on my favorite 32-bit home console.

I was looking for PS2 stuff on here to see if my pc could run it. I knew NOTHING about God Hand at the time except for that IGN gave it a 3, which played a big in part in me learning how dogshit they really are. Didn't know about Clover, or Platinum, even though I played numerous games of theirs. So I downloaded it, played through the first chapter and wasn't satisfied with the emulation, so I picked it up on the PS3 store. It is so perfectly crafted and truly encapsulates why I love the ps2 era. Every single time the thought of it being my true favorite wavered, I play it again and that's completely stamped out. GRANTED, I haven't beaten it, yet, I'm only on the first fight with Azel, but I highly doubt my opinion will change by the time I finish it.
