The other day I run into a thread about old mobile phones and thanks to that I realized I kept through the years the devices that introduced me both to j2me games and android emulation, although both have been long broken. It wasn't really clear for me up to that moment, but the thread made me understand what motivates me to keep some stuff as tokens of my childhood and my teens. Then, I started trying to recollect what's the history of mobile gaming and mobile emulation, especially android emulation... Do you folks happen to have any reliable sources of information, like books/academic articles/documentaries on these subjects? Could we say we had a huge or, to an extent, standardized scene of mobile gaming prior to the j2me trend? Which was the first android emulator ever conceived? I also would like to expand the perspectives to catch stuff like the KaiOS software development scene, like do you folks think something like that could enable some sort of revival of a mobile gaming scene with the same vibes of the og j2me? I'm only interested in resources on popular/affordable stuff considering peripheral audiences/markets, not interested in stuff like gaming related to iOS, trending handheld emulators/consoles or mobile linux contexts other than the feature phone (dumb phones) one, at least not rn.
