What games are you guys playing lately?
I usually dig up games and play them, and when I find a series I dig them slow but deep lol.
This time I found the 7th Dragon series and started from the NDS game. In summary it was clearly developed by people who never developed a video game before (it was seriously that rubbish with tons of no-no in game development). At least they had good ideas when it came to "ok" character creation but a necessary party creation feature any RPG should have IMO (which is why I was even interested in the series from the start).
The actual decent game is 2nd game in the series called 7th Dragon 2020 but on PSP. Using the same theme but takes place in 2020 of our current world. The series may be offensive for religious people because it ignores your religion and comes up with its own "creation fact". Despite the situations in the series are too much for little kids and very dark the childish art style in the game is a complete opposite contrast. At least they learned how to develop an RPG but not a video game until the 4th game. This time they went full on anime style and that is better considering how dark and serious the series is like "children die and melt away due to acid rain" and being eaten alive, people mass suicide by being brainwashed by cults, et cetera kinda seriousness. The series is like Game of Thrones that you have fun and laughs one second with a main character and they die horribly in another second. People are like flower, they blossom and after the blink of an eye they fade away!!! Alas alas!!! They called me "you are cursed because you are Unit 13" but no one told me I'm the curser cursing at the damn dragons!!!! lolol
3rd game is when they really shit on it. You play as the same character but just because "they chilled for a while" all your progression is lost. Despite save carry out feature from the previous game your level, your gear and money and whatnot is not carried over. Dude what a stupid shit. Of course I cheated my way to get back I lost. Ain't gonna grind that shit again. This time they clearly gone with "oh 2nd game sold well so let's spam another game to milk its popularity" shit and therefore story was all over the place. They had no idea what to do so the game is partyly like the previous game as "almost a remake", they stole tons of shit from MGS V Phantom Pain and then they filled the rest of the game with whatever is generic drama and parody of itself (which was fun). I wouldn't ask for a remake normally but It makes me think they couldn't properly developed this series so they need a decent remake yo.
Well unlike the 1st game, 2nd and 3rd games were "enjoyable". Would I recommend them? Hardly. If they wanna play a cute-looking serious post-apocalyptic game and especially if you wanna play rather relaxing turn based JRPG sure why not. I kinda liked how 2nd and 3rd game having Dying Light 1 situation going on but does it better. All survivals live in a tower and you can pimp your tower by construction new rooms with different functions. If this idea was deeper in customizable way with tower defense elements it would be really fun for me but they are mostly used for story progression, gear upgrade and non-nonsense fan service and extra stuff that changes nothing for the game itself.
Now I'm playing the 4th game on 3DS, I just started. I disliked reduced classes compared to previous games but they at least merged multiple classes into one. If they did it correctly it's a better decision. But I disliked like half of the visual character creation option is locked. The fuck dude? I hate games when features are locked behind. Do they expect me to play most of the game and change whole body of my character or what? They did this shit a little in 3rd game too but it just unlocked 2 extra body types so it was trivial. And previous games had no new game + but if 4th game has a decent one only then half of character options being unlocked later may matter.
TL;DR: I'm playing 7th Dragon series, and just started the 4th game and explained how the whole series is if you were curious about it or would be interested in it.
