rayman 1
crash bash all the hard mini games are enough to drive you insane its a game you play through once than never want to play again

Ninja Gaiden on Xbox is more or less impossible for me. The first two levels took an entire night to beat, and that was by the skin of my teeth. I remember that first boss dude being insanely fucking difficult.

They really have skill gap that is so high to comprehend.
If you thought they were already difficult, oh boy, there's Master Ninja mode.........

The King of Fighters 94 (Neo Geo)
Athena (Arcade & NES)
SRW F & F Final (PSX)
Ninja Ryukenden Tomoe/Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (SNES)
Bare Knuckle/Streets of Rage Trilogy (Mega Drive)
Contra series (various)
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (SNES)

They're hard as sin they make other games look pretty easy by comparison.

The first official rage game is probably Takeshi's challenge for the original famicom. It's whole purpose was to basically annoy the crap out of players with cryptic solutions and very easy ways to screw yourself over the last second such as walking in an unassuming hut that you can never exit or not killing a seemingly friendly NPC for no reason

Pretty much since Takeshi (long story short gameshow and actor celebrity in Japan) hated video games and wanted to troll.

Any arcade game Konami made from the mid to late 80's. I'm so glad that new M2 collection is coming out so Gradius 3 arcade can finally be an enjoyable game lmao. No saving crap like Haunted Castle and Rock'n'Rage tho, those ones are carried solely by their soundtracks.

Kinda hard to list some as most the games i want to post aren't exactly hard game, just have super hard difficult boss fights. For example, card-en-ciel....game literally has a SUPER overpowered with so many cheat skills, but the last boss in the story, though can be made easier, unless you are going for the true ending, really is a nerve racking battle. Not only is your card deck tied to your hp, and every time you get hit you lose around 200+ cards, but your best cheat skills are locked by the boss and you have you have to inflict around 750 damage(on normal difficulty) while he has 7500 and huge break shield, he also attacks 6 of your 9 squares so you better hope you draw the right move cards, or time your action cards right.(there is a setting that makes them auto, but that's no fun). Really love the game, but wished they covered all the fake game worlds, cause i would love to know the lore behind them....

Also Sans fight from undertale...you know it

It was more about that they just cant program and rushed, most Amiga games were thar:

I'm currently trapped in Ys I Chronicles+. The boss fights are maybe some of the worst ever??? I'm even stuck on the one before the final boss and everyone already talks about how the final boss is like at least top ten worst final boss fights ever.

The Turbografx-CD version was NOT this rough.

It's maybe not the hardest game ever, but it sure spikes so extremely in difficulty for the stupidest things possible that it's maddening that this is supposed to be the updated final version released like thirty entire years later and it's also maybe the worst one???

Oh right, I always forgot that Metal Slug series is supposed to be hard as sin for casuals as well, way more than even Contra, Megaman and Ghost n' Goblins could do. It's really more platformer that plays like a shmup. The only reason you can eventually git gud at this game is only because of its unlimited continues that instantly bring you at the spot when you died before.

Also if you want to play a modern game that's frustratingly head-bashing desk hard because you feel like never knowing anything even after playing it a couple of times, there's always Knights in the Nightmare.
