Been recently trying to beat ikaruga ever since I heard about it, I've been mostly playing off and on and I really wanna see the ending to it but level 3 is such a pain! It's gotten me wondering what other kinda gc games that have that level of difficulty throughout playing it because it sure is dizzying

When it comes to the GameCube, Ikaruga is as hard as it gets when it comes to the system. In terms of exclusives to the system (as Ikaruga was also on the Dreamcast), it'd have to be F-Zero GX. Story Mode is atrocious.

Really, the system's overall library is on the easier side of things. There's nowhere near the number of hard games on the GameCube as there is on Nintendo's previous systems.

I played Ikaruga on the Dreamcast, tough as nails of a game. But for the Gamecube, is definely F-Zero GX both the Story mode and the Grand Prix cups on hard makes you want to throw your controller.

For me they can be like the port of Ikaruga that is known for being very memorized and as well as knowing how to differentiate which enemies are light or dark and that is also reflected in the color of the bullets but sometimes some enemies mix them making confusing and difficult to avoid even if you have the color of your shield and also the limit of continues that makes it very difficult to pass the game and F-Zero GX which is known for being a futuristic racing game quite challenging but has a fairly high learning curve even in somewhat simple cups where you have to know by heart the layout of the circuits since sometimes they can be narrow or without support making that in many cases you end up colliding with something or go straight into the void and start the race from the beginning and You only have 5 Continues to spend the entire cup making it difficult to complete especially in the following cups and the AI of the rival opponents are more competitive, very fast and are not so easy to catch everyone at once in the race to win 3rd at least but if it is in the Story Mode the AI in the game does not forgive in the least and as well as the time requirements that are demanding in the tests to progress in the story of the game.

(Speaking of games I actually owned and still do) F-Zero GX and Viewtiful Joe.

I found Shikigami No Shiro 2 to be slightly harder than Ikaruga

(as Ikaruga was also on the Dreamcast)
I am wondering if many didn't know that since it was JP exclusive. Then again even Castle Shikigami 2 itself was a Dreamcast then PS2 game.

I don't know if we can say that Smash Bros Melee could be a hard game but if we count competitive game then it's not far from being one of the most technical fighting games out there:

On a side note, I'm wondering if PSO could be considered a hard game by itself but once you reach the final difficulty level, Ultimate, enemies are getting massively buffed and if you've beaten the game in the previous level, Very Hard, at a level lower than 80 (the minimum required Online to be allowed to enter a room in Ultimate mode) you'll have a very hard time (especially as a solo player). PSO, unlike PSU and onwards, has less control options so the game requires more spacing management (you have to physically avoid attacks rather than using a roll button) and you lack options like photon art nor jumping which made PSU and PSO2/NGS more fast-paced and allows you to avoid enemy attacks. This is amplified if you're playing a class such as a Force since they're magic users requiring to get their mana recharged and are also supports.

That's a new one I'm hearing... I'll have to give it a try since I may need to give myself a bit more adjusted to chaotic shmups without ikaruga's polarity mechanic and come back to it

Not really the hardest game per se but unlocking certain things in some GC games can be really daunting.

Like unlocking Captain Blue in Viewtiful Joe where you need to win at Ultra V Rated. That difficulty setting in turn needs to be unlocked by previous playthroughs of the easier settings.

Another is unlocking King Boo/Boo Pipes and Petey Piranha/Piranha Pipes in Mario Kart Double Dash. It also needs previous unlocks for difficulty settings as well as Mirror mode. Which can be rage inducing when you've lost races due to one final lap timed blue shell that hits you at the last moment. And you'll want to unlock the Boo Pipes because it's all smooth sailing for it's superior speed and control that makes it almost feel like a God Mode cart.

I always found this one to be more bullet hell-like than ikaruga (considering that the polarity system means that you don't have to worry about half of the projectiles at least in easy and normal mode).
