The game has a softness to it that develops a lot in the later titles (but HHH is peak in the series, YOU KNOW). This game is a masterclass in charm and had me drawing a lot of hamsters as a kid. Gameplay, like u said, is really solid. It ushers you along with just enough friction to make you stop and think sometimes. I actually got really stuck as a kid trying to figure out where all the action went at the end of the Fun Land arc (apparently the control room was really well-hidden 😅). I agree with you and think this is a perfect game for children & has enough substance to still be fun for an adult (who already enjoys gameboy games LOL). Thanks for writing this!!
