The original CD retail version of the game, not the current one on Steam was interesting in many aspects
The 25th anniversary update brought some of them but I think that nothing will replicate the ambience of the original in Software Mode.

My dad's pc only had a 4mb onboard ATi video processor so I could only play HL in software mode upto patch 1.0.1.3...I think. Good times.

I definitely played in OpenGL with my 3DFX card - I think I maybe got it a year or so after release though. One of the most formative games of my teenage years along with Quake and Jedi Knight.

I liked Half-Life Legacy but playing in Software mode for the original version felt different.

Man, I love Half-Life regardless of the version. I think it's some kind of problem of mine, or maybe just a lot of love, I don't know.

I still own my copy.

I think it was the first "famous" game my Windows 98 PC could absolutely run without grief.

Good times.

Nah. I even finished Source several times.

Physical? I think that incidentally I own Half-Life Generations twice.

I remember playing HL, somewhat vaguely. Those head crabs or whatever they were called creeped me out. True for small, squirrely things that jump at the player like Duke 3D slimers.

I don't think that one's very well loved, but I'm glad you enjoy it!
I'm the weird guy who isn't that fan of Opposing Force nor HL² Episode 2 but prefers Blue Shift and HL² Episode 1 instead.

Any kind of face hugger is annoying to deal with but at least they're weak.

Don't own the disc sadly. Playing the steam version instead. At least once every year i play HL, it's like a tradition at this point

I don't want to ruin things for all you Otaku, BUT
The Blue Shift instruction manual features the sentence "Buy flowers for Lauren"
So I'm thinking GF or wife.
I don't care if Gearbox' HL aren't canon but I feel bad for her knowing what happened right after Gordon has defeated the Nihilanth.
