Gyromite is a multiplayer only game, released as a launch title for the NES in North America along with the robot buddy add-on R.O.B.

Around 1983 the home console market in USA dropped in revenue by almost 100%. It's a fact. It's in living memory. It's in clear historical record. It's not a "myth."

Yes it was USA, but saying "was a North America thing only" is like someone says "The Great Depression was bad" and then your reply is "There was no depression over here in Vatican City, the shops were as popular as ever!" Yeah, and, that's not what the word referred to.
  • "It's raining in my hometown right now"
  • Reply: "That's a your-town-only thing, the weather is fine over here. Enough of this "rain" myth."
The word also refers to game console (in USA) crash, not computers and computer games.

Anyway what I really wanted to say is Gyromite has a soundtrack by the always unbelievably amazing composer Hirokazu Tanaka (who also did Super Mario Land, Metroid 1, and Earthbound although he's overlooked by people on that because it's a co-credit with Keiichi Suzuki but it's clear from stylistic fingerprints that many of the best tunes are by Tanaka).
Ironic how this video would drop just now regarding this topic, here's a little history lesson
I'm telling you, the video game industry was not in danger in the 1980s, I lived the era, I'd argue nowadays thanks to Nintendo's unrealistic prices the industry my be in a bigger danger than in the 1980s, I sort of blame the AVGN for being responsible for an entire generation being fed inaccurate historical information.

Not particularly, the video game "crash" myth was a North America thing only, over here video games were as popular in the 1980s as ever.

R.O.B. the Robot was the trojan horse that successfully saved all video games from extinction. Thank you, Gyromite 🙏

This Game is known to be played by 2 players and not 1 player, where Player 1 controls the Scientist and Player 2 controls the Elevators and Descenders.
