It's a game from 2003 and yet sielnt hill 3 is more advanced than stuff that released in 2005, it's fucking incredible
I was especially stunned by the otherworld hospital walls, they look like ithey're pulsating and alive. It's like a blur filter and moving textures underneath? I cant really describe it

Any other effects you've ever seen in one or a small handful of games that really stuck with you?

I remember the Forest Temple hallway that twisted around in Zelda OoT and climbing the forever ladder in Metal Gear Solid 3.

I'd like to play Silent Hill series. Is it okay to start with 3?

No no no! Go in order u_u

1 2 3 4

All are best through duckstation and pcsx2

This:

An awesome mixture of 2D anime and 3D CGI, and it was way back in '98!

Never saw anything better than it in the same field...

Final Fantasy 8 went from game graphics to FMV almost seamlessly. While playing on 4:3 CRT the visual effect was incredible.

The remake on Nintendo Switch is less impressive with the updated character models when transitioning to computer graphic pre-rendered cutscenes.

Three is a sequel to 1's story you can start with 2 since it isn't really tied or maybe just play 1 then 3

I think I've mentioned it before a while back, but I really miss old games with transitions. Like screen flips out to transition you to combat or something.

I used Crash Warped as a example last time, so I'll mention Paper Mario.

I like how in 1 and 2 they have the transition to a stage like you are in a play, tying in with the idea that what you are playing is a story being read to you.

I mean, when Paper Mario 64 came out in Japan it was called Mario Story. So, really cool way to connect gameplay with the story. We need personality like that back in gaming.

It's a weird one but the first Hylics game; Hylics.

The hole artstyle revolves around this incredible posterized/roto-scope/dithering effect created using filmed and photographed objects.

There's a sort of "revised-memory-of-early-internet" quality to everything that I've never seen anywhere before.
Even the sequel doesn't quite have the same visual-vibe (Though, both are great).

This looks cool, it's like Doom if you could play it in VGA.

and the "next gen" clear gfx in 1996 (even better than turok)

It came out in 2015 🤯

Its' dirt cheap if you're interested:

IMO, its' better to get the first game on Steam because there's no native gamepad support but steam has controller mapping.
