Which is to say: you're gonna find more friction playing through the NES version of DQ1 than you would with the recent remake, or the old remaster (which I believe originated on android/iOS and was later ported to PS4 and NS1). Beyond that, the series is very grindy in general, and pretty archetypal in story. If you're looking for a strong narrative experience, you should play DQ8 or DQ11. Anything else is gonna feel a little bare-bones, for varying reasons. Another thing to point out -- though it's thankfully less and less relevant as time goes on -- is that Square-Enix cheaped out on the English localization of Dragon Quest 4's NDS remake, not bothering to translate any of the "party chat" dialog in the back half of the game. Which means you basically get zero dialog from your party members for the latter half of the game, which sucks. [/QUOTE]
