Hi RetroGang, i decided to make you praise a thing i like again... i mean to suggest a cool book series
The name is Geronimo Stilton, the boss and main editor of the Rodent Gazette, the most popular newspaper on New Mouse City, and everything would be normal and simple, but anytime he tries to enjoy a normal life, fate says "absolutely fucking not" and drags him in adventures that will give anyone a heart attack, let alone a scaredy mouse like our poor G, mostly by his trickster cousin Trap and his tomboy daredevil of a sister Thea, all while dreading his Gran William Shortpaws' wrath and stingyness, fortunately his nephew Benjamin keeps him from going postal
The books are set in a world where mice (And rarely cats) are anthropomorphic, being a child book series expect lots of cheese and mouse puns (i would reccomend a drinking game but i don't want to commit second degree murder), something unique about them is that some words are randomly colored or drawn to fit their context, for example if honey is mentioned, the word will be yellow and look like a smear of honey, the plots for the most part while cartoonish, can fall into predictibility, and geronimo can ellict some pity due to being unfortunate enough to be the "coherent but weakwilled chartacter that the universe itself will punish for daring to exist" trope, poor folk can't catch a break, mercifully the plots are lighthearted and he always comes on top
A brief run of the main cast
Geronimo Stilton: the titular mouse, an overworked editor in chief of the most popular paper in his hometown... no pressure, a folk that would rather be in his home relaxing, but fate keeps dragging him into antics, looks coward, but if you succeed in messing with him,,, watch out
Thea Stilton: Geronimo's polar opposite sister, a tomboy with a bike that much to poor G's Dismay she drive into his office, she isn't content with writing stuff, she wants to be part of it, taking photos herself, climbing mountaings with her paws alone and driving all the way to where the scoop is
Trap Stilton: Geronimo's Cousin, and a total drag, ironic considering he and Thea drag around Geronimo in antics he would rather be not part, a trickster and a mooch, he is the comic relief, but at times you want to pull him of the book and turn his head into mush against a curb
Benjamin Stilton: Geronimo's favorite cousin, his existence alone cleanses Geronimo of his fear and occasional fears, this little bean is the spark of joy of the entire Gazette, helps that like most kid book characters he is far smarter for his age
William Shortpaws: Geronimo and Thea's adoptive grandpa, and a old folk whose only name fills the room with dread, at the scream of "GRANSOOOOOON" the Gazette knows someone (Mostly G) are in trouble, his wrath, though, pales if we pit it versus his inmense greed and stingyness
Aside of the main books Geronimo Stilton they are... actually a lot of spinoffs, but the ones i am more focused are: The Kingdom of Fantasy books, triple lenght books about...well, a kingdom of fantasy, the plots are superficially not a big deal, but the Lore is surprinsingly intrincate
The Thea Sisters books, girl oriented spinoff focusing on the titular group of friends, imagine an Slice if Life manga, but sometimes they deal with actual villians, especially the nasty Flashyfur family who pullote and manipulate for profit and fame
The (Unofficial name) Time travel Graphic Novels, as the name implies, are comics about Geronimo and Gang going into time travelling antics to stop the Pirate Cats from altering history so they can TAKE OVER THE WORLD
This ones are more focused in the EDU angle of "Edutainment", teaching historical facts about the world
There is also a series of Surreal art comics with an art style that resembles Cas Van and TerminalMontage styles' son, but so far there is only two online for free
I come to love the series since i got one of its books in a Tianguis at 12 Y/O, sadly like most Mexican readers, finding more books outside of thriffing online was hell, so i had to hold to that book until i could use Internet and grab them via *Ahem*
The books what they lack in plot originality they made up with memorable settings and great designs (The Thea Sisters, especially Violet, are ADORABLE CINNAMON ROLLS) and make no mistake, the plots can get real stakey at times, if you can buy them online or "buy" them, you aren't missing a thing, they are far from complex reads, but a rainy evening will find itself occupied with one in hand
That said, those books come from Italy, so lots of them are Italian only, the ones translated are still a read
This will be all for this reccomendation, we will met again, word of Bakuma1997
