The Xbox version of Onimusha adds a "Hard Mode" to the game. But you have to beat the game in Normal mode under 3 hours to unlock it.

Then there's also a setting in the game called "Ultimate mode" that allows you to use the most powerful weapons from the beginning of the game. So I'm playing the game now and am curious if you can unlock Hard mode by beating Normal with Ultimate mode enabled.

Does anyone know? Would make things a lot easier.

I didn't know any of this, but that's some cool trivia for a great game. I hope you find the info you're looking for.

According to this guide, it says you can use Ultimate Mode.
3. Unlock Hard Mode

To unlock Hard Mode, you must complete the game in under three hours.
At first, doing so may seem nearly impossible to pull off. If you can
manage to beat the mini game Oni Spirits, you may have an easier time
doing this. With the help of the Ultimate mode setting, you should be
able to clear the game in well under 2 hours or less.

Nice! Thank you. Guess I'll be beating Oni Spirits first.
Good luck

Well I might just try beating it under 3 hours the regular way or figure out a way to transfer a save because this minigame is harder than the regular game. Just the slightest mistake and you have to restart all over again.

Btw I've already managed to unlock Hard Mode and am currently playing through it. I managed to beat Normal mode without Ultimate mode enabled in under 2 hours. For anyone interested the key to managing this is to first of all skip the cutscenes (because they add to the game time) and preferably use a guide to automatically solve the box puzzles. You probably also want to skip the optional Dark Realm and Ogre Tower challenges...
