No, these were not taken on an Xbox One or Series S|X via backwards compatibility, nor on a PC via emulation, but on a real Xbox 360. Its amazing how you can tell that the resolution, not the graphics, is the most limiting factor here.

A few more screenshots. Look how good the graphics are.

Ya... the 360 was an amazing system for its time.

I noticed that a lot of PS3 games often looked muddy or slightly grainy in some cases, whereas the 360 with the same game would often appear clean and sharp. I don't know if it was the CPU or how the games were coded on each system. Not dogging the PS3, mind you... it was an amazing system in its own right.

But like you, I was more onboard with how nice 360 games looked and still do to this day.

That's called good art direction, any modern unreal slop would be full of reflections while using 5 times more resources than this, 7th gen really pushed the consoles to their limits and most stuff released in that time still looks really good today.

Yeah, I honestly thought 7th generation was where video game graphics hit their peak in a weird way, all the advancements and everything after have always felt like some soulless dick measuring contest to me. Take a game like Vanquish (Probably my favourite game of that generation as well). That game came out in 2010 and it still looks great to this day.

Yeah I remember tanking screenshots in Aurora

That's the case of regardless of dimension and technical limitation how you use colors via texture/sprites and/or light determines why a visual looks good in the context of art direction.

However what they do anymore is using "realistic" generic shit. It may look "realistic" but it doesn't look good for my taste, there is no art in it and shit. It looks as dull as how real life looks like. That's why I will always prefer, for example, how Breath of Fire 4 and Radiata Stories look like over new generation "realistic-looking repulsive graphics" games.

Artstyle as in textures and sprites one thing but in games even how you use light matters a lot to build an artistical atmosphere that makes it look good to look at, otherwise no one would wanna keep playing a game that looks repulsive. That's why, for example, I still think how Vampire Masquerade Bloodline 1 looks like still visually appealing and it even looks good way more than most video games released in 10 years so it's not about how graphically demanding a video game is or RTX shit. But IDK video game industry forgot video games are an art form, they just bash realistic graphics, sexual objects and mindless killing or walking, cinematic shit and calls it a day.

I've never done this with my RGH 360. Does this Nova module come with every Aurora install?

Epic Games used to make incredible games; pushing the engine to it's limits.

Playing some of the first pre-release Xbox 360 kiosk demo that I remember playing at Walmart in my youth to celebrate 20 years.

It's a shame very few remember Remember Me because it's still pretty good.

PS3 and 360 were the last gen that I felt games still had an art direction. Most games today either go for a realistic design(scanning in real faces, etc.) or an anime cel-shaded style.

It's not even a "good" realistic design in the sense that, there's just no artistic vision in the realism they want to do, most just don't put much attention in the details like how the illumination affects the vibes, making this realistic approach seem empty and same-y.

The 7th gen in the other hand actually put care into this, the titles that already looked HD still look HD today. (with only a resolution upgrade, many would pass as recent titles)

7th gen just had a vision that is already long since it was lost.
