Games you're surprised you like

I love the legend of zelda series, easily one of my favourites. I always hated the idea of majoras mask, I even assumed the deku, zora and goron form would be terrible mechanics. Long story short, pretty sure I'd hate the game and everyone else was just crazy with nostalgia.

In more recent years I still avoided majoras mask due to the focus on time management. I've been a fan of the zelda series since OOT on the N64.

I played lightning returns to completion, great game and the closest thing there is to majoras mask, this got me thinking I might actually enjoy majoras mask as the time management is more a mechanic than a hindrance, if you know what you're doing you've plenty of time.

Anyway, I found myself trying majoras mask after watching a video by nerrel on it based on the 3ds remake, with two patches applied, one patch to change the sound track back to the N64 version, and leoetlinos project restoration patch fixing almost all the changes that were made that hindered the gameplay back to it's original incarnation.

I've been playing it non stop since then, have two dungeons down and many quests completed.

For anyone else that avoided majoras mask, learn the song of double time and the reverse song of time, takes the tedium and rush out of the game.

I honestly never thought I'd give that game a fair chance, I've avoided it since it's release and I'm glad I played the patched 3d remake version of the game as I absolutely adored the 3d remake of OOT

I don't care about puzzle games but it made me addicted lol.

Looks annoying and "what's fun in that?" but OST is banger and playing in hardest challenges is surprisingly satisfying.

It was fun to unlock every achievement the game has to offer despite how hard and annoying it was lol.

I watched the anime but didn't like nor disliked it per se but I wouldn't think I would love this game so much it's in my "top 10 video games of all the time".

I don't care about visual novels even if they are like good old point and click adventure games but on Steam saw this game having good sense of humor and all but honesly I didn't think I would love everything about the game so much.

I had no idea it's not a simple mere Sims game but actually have funny and supernatural story to experience lol. I take it as an adventure game in the sense of supernatural adventure to experience and deal with without it's a point and click game.

I guess there are more games to mention but they are my "tops" regarding this topic.

Animal Crossing.
It's just Harvest Moon reskin with all the boring stuff and added room decoration feature but why I CAN'T STOP PLAYIIIING!!!

Weirdly enough it was persona and the Sony Spider-Man games, got into them on a whim and wasn’t expecting much but was incredibly pleased with what I got.
And each Persona games have its own different stuff that gives you different reasons to like them. Playing each Persona game felt like you get to know another side of the love of your life so you fall in love again and again lol.

I'm not really good at strategy/tactical games and last year I got really hooked to the original XCOM UFO DEFENSE. I can't explain it but something on that game made my brain tickle and try to experience as much as I could from it. both from it's turn based combat and the resource management part

Darkest Dungeon 2
I'm not into horror genre and I'm not going to play other titles of that kind (only DD1, if I can), but something about it attracted me; only a couple of monsters were pretty disturbing, to me, and maybe a couple of the characters stories, but in all I've played it a lot.

Happened a lot to me when I was on a 3D platformer binge. For Ape Escape I actually hated the concept and the artstyle initially, but when I finally gave it a chance it became my favorite PS1 3D platfomer. Similarly, Glover PS1 seemed like it was going to be really annoying to play, but I actually enjoyed it a lot as it had slightly better controls compared to N64.

Recently I think Cyberpunk2077 actually surprised me, usually I am not much of a fan of modern games and people who like this one are frequently treated like RATS or something, but I've found it quite enjoyable.

Well I played CyberJunk 2077's day 1 version and the version released like a year ago (2.12), so I can say comparing to day 1 the game got really playable and I'm not just talking about bugs. First version was really like an Alpha build lots of people used to play in game test programs, it was that bad.

So, as far as I know 2.12 and from now on is playable. Game is fine tuned and added features like you can block bullets like a jedi with your katana which do add fun gameplay on its own. The obvious junk aspect of the game is corrected. Some side quest stuff were added and all so the game doesn't feel so pointless and empty anymore. But would I say the game worth paying money? Nope. The game is still a junk mess in terms of bad design choices like they are some indie developer and what junk left they didn't fix beyond bugs because it's lack of vision at this point. It only serves me to create memes from this junk game and that's all about it. For example lol:

The game is still a hot mess just because bad decisions, not "bugs". For example Bethesda games were always hot mess but it wasn't because of bad design choices. This game is just some fancy and expensive the most overrated indie quality trash with AAA budget lol. If this topic was about "the games you are surprised how disappointing they were" then CyberJunk 2077 would be my top 1 even suppressing Duke Nuken Forever and Metal Gear Solid 5 BS lol.

I said I would never play World of Warcraft and then I played 80 hours with my friend during the Pandemic. I still like it, especially Classic; though I wish I had people to play it with.

Kingdom Come:Deliverance!

I've been so spoiled with being able to play as self-inserts, it's been harder to immerse myself in games with set characters. However! Henry as the MC is a very likeable guy, and I want to see him succeed, so it's been really motivating to see him recognized for his hard work as I progress through the game.

The game is incredibly immersive, and it's historically accurate as far as I can tell. It's been really cool to get a feel for medieval life as I stumble through the game and run screaming from bandits for the millionth time because I was cocky.

I dunno what are you talking about, these videos feel more like small things devs overlooked, the only one that really feels like bad design is the last one, but honestly bethesda games are also full of extremely stupid design choices and bad AI, don't see how cyberpunk is particularly that bad
