What's a game that looked interesting to you and you were genuinely excited to play when it releases, only to find out that it was canceled?

Fan projects (fan games, fan movies, etc.) are a love letter from the fans to their favorite series.

Companies, instead of trying to get better than the competition, try to find ways to make sure there's NO competition.

They could try licensing deals but that requires effort. Shooting them down is easier and costs nothing. That and yeah, it could be a pride thing. Can't let the developers look bad in comparison.

The Chocobo Racing sequel for the 3DS, I was real excited when I first saw it announced at the 3DS' launch, the PS1 game is a childhood gem of mine, got real down when I found out it was cancelled.
Then Squeenix, some 15 years later or so, come up and basically bring it back for the Switch... but I really wish they didn't, ugh.
