Games that remind you of another

Odin Sphere is excellent. if you can, play the PS3 or Vita version.

For whatever reason, there are multiple shmups where you play as an animal and they all share the characteristics of having a one word title, being hard, and for having good graphics for their time.

I discovered Kolibri through the Brazilian YouTuber Cogumelando, who played it during a livestream. He said it was unfairly difficult and that it wasn't very good. You play as a hummingbird and you go through stages that seem to be inspired by Latin America and Africa. The sprites and backgrounds look photorealistic.

A few months ago I also found Apidya by accident while watching random gameplay videos.
It has insane bosses.
Somehow the second level makes me think of the water stages in E.V.O.: Search for Eden, which I adore.
Apidya is an Amiga game, but with anime graphics and it even has a logo written in katakana. You may wonder if it truly is Japanese. It's not... the devs just wanted people to think that they were from Japan. And despite what the title screen shows, it's not a sequel either. The soundtrack is pretty cool too.

Lastly, there is Agony (unusual name). It was also released on the Amiga and in it you play as a bird creature that looks like an owl. The graphics in this one are reminiscent of Kolibri's.

Reminds me of another game, Insector X for the Genesis. It's pretty good, you might want to check it out.
Oh yeah I had stumbled upon that one too but I completely forgot about it! Is it true that there are major differences between the versions?
Thanks for the reminder xD

The aesthetic styles are completely different. It's a cute game on the NES and a serious game on the Genesis.

LMFAO I haven't seen that Barnyard game specifically. I played the GBA one and almost beat it once. You could shoot milk with your udders xD

E.V.O.: 46 Okunen Monogatari and its sequel have similar mechanics to Spore.
I never got past creature stage on Spore because I found it kinda boring and I never knew how to make a creature that looked good (cell stage was nice, though).
My brother managed to beat Spore once.

As for E.V.O., I played Search for Eden and had a lot of fun. Certain bosses are difficult to beat.
I ended up getting in trouble after a certain point because I chose a specific evolution that wasn't as powerful, and there was no way of going back. I still managed to finish the game, though.
I recommend it to anyone who wants a game themed around evolution.
