Games that everyone hate but you love. Or vice versa

Mystic Quest -- yeah its not great but as a 10 year old kid hungry for more Final Fantasy after playing Final Fantasy II (4) in 1992 I really liked it even if it was clearly a watered down kiddie version of Final Fantasy. The music is amazing.

Dino City -- I got this game for Christmas that I never heard of and never asked for. It was one of like 3 or 4 SNES games I had at the time, so it got a lot of play. I learned to love it.

Mega Man X6 -- yup. I loved it when I first played it. It has a lot of flaws but I played the shit out of it nonetheless. I didnt start hating the X series until X7 lol

Legend of Legaia -- I got a lot of flack for liking this game at the time, although I think there might be a lot of people on this site that remember it fondly too.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain -- also a game that probably has plenty of fans on this site. But the original game in the LoK series was something that none of my teenage friends at the time wanted anything to do with. It wasn't until Soul Reaver that the series got popular. And I still know plenty of people that wont touch the original.
To 15 year old me it was like a gothic Zelda and I really liked it.

Dark Souls 2 -
You know the deal (probably), pretty much if you want to get into Dark Souls series, you have to pretend Dark Souls 2 does not exist because "it's shit, B-Team ruin it, Soul Memory suck, quantity over quality bosses, jank movement, level design suck, yada-yada-yada". But in all honestly, DS2 special in its own way even with many flaw. PvE-wise, it got the most content (with many frustration), it has unique interaction to progress and minor stuff, and NG+ difference (which unfortunately not many people experience). PvP-wise, most weapon viable for random invasion as long you gain the upperhand in jank battle.

Even Aava battle where she invisible if you don't take detour to get Eye of the Priestess, it's still doable, you just really need to git gud in order to beat him. Same for Ivory King, you want to help the knight around the map to freeze portal mid-battle unless you want adds keep spawning while fighting Ivory King. The famous Alonne seppuku if you no-hit.

That little detail and charm what makes DS2 special in its own way even if the majority of people hates it.

Batman Arkham Origins
I don't get the hate for this one, at all. My favorite parts of this game were the voice acting for Batman and the twists past the middle of the story.

For me, Skyrim's story design can go take a piss, but the gameplay design was an improvement to Oblivion in almost every way (except maybe the spell casting). Dungeons were also actually fun this time around, whereas Oblivion had the same 4 dungeons everywhere with just a few room-placement changes here and there.

"Mystic Quest" is alright, but it just never felt like a true "Final Fantasy" game to me—mainly due to its low difficulty.

But... You're telling me that people hated "Dino City"?🤨
I actually think that game is underrated.

People sometimes think that 5 was the start of RE's dark age, but in reality, 5 was the end of Capcom's 2000s golden age, and not only is it genuinely good despite flaws like a reliance on cover-based combat in the third act, it's still a highlight of the mainline series for its unique African setting and fun gameplay that's even better in co-op, and is much, much, MUCH better than its direct successor (Resident Evil 6). Despite being more actionised than the already combat-focused 4 and ditching suspense and scares for annoying, ineffective mid-2000s shock horror, it's still recognisable as a part of the series and delivers a solid wrap-up to the Umbrella and Chris/Wesker plotlines as well.

I was always of the opinion that RE1-3 were the classic era of Resident Evil. Then 4-6 is the action era of Resident Evil. And finally 7-9 is (9 potentially) the first person era of Resident Evil.

Sure there are off shoots and classics like Zero, Revelations, Code Veronica but that's how I always looked at the original RE games.

RE5 is a good game, but it does have its flaws, and I'm not above knowing its not for everyone. RE6 on the other hand has maybe good moments here and there...but as the game goes on I always feel like something is lacking. The flip flopping of the story timeline was and is slightly confusing, and the twist in the story feels kinda predictable.

Basically, Resident Evils 1 - 4 are, to me, the Japanese originals (utter classics), Resident Evil 5 is the American remake (not as special, but still strong), and Resident Evil 6 is the godawful Netflix "anime" by Adi Shankar loosely based on the American remake. And you know what? Sometimes, I find myself in the mood for the American remake.

An infinite number. What can I say? It's a pretty popular topic.
Coming off RE4 it had a very disappointing single player mode. It was too bright, with daylight settings in general, not scary and you had to babysit carefully the AI partner the whole game.

I think Silent Hill Downpour was unfairly hated. It is slow but it is also very fun to explore with a good amount of optional explorable areas, sidequests, lore and secrets. And the story was alright and it had some novel ideas.

So much so it directly inspired the Silent Hill 2 remake.

dragon crystal mastersystem love this game as a child didn t understand inglish that good but man that game toke me as kid in a fantasy world.

A lot of people dislike 3rd Birthday but I thoroughly enjoy it, it’s very different from the first two Parasite Eve games but that doesn’t bother me.

Drakengard 3 is another one that I’d throw up there but I don’t know if people really hate that game or not.
Actually all 3 are very different. First game is
My Picks are Dawn of Mana, Dynasty Warriors 6 and FF13
-_- Dawn of Mana killed the franchise and Vision of Mana couldn't revive it, but it is a good game. As for FF13....I bought all 3 games at the low low price of $1....I overspent $1

Most of its H8 comes from the fact they got Roger Craig Smith instead of the LEGENDARY Kevin Conroy. I own all 4 games and I love them all, even Origins, just wish they got Kevin and Mark to do the voices.

Metroid Other M is basically what I imagined when I think about a Metroid game in 3d. I know the game has many flaws, manly in the story, but I do think that the core gameplay still good. They should try making another Metroid using a similar gameplay.

I'm the Crash Bash, Gun Survivor 2: Code Veronica and Dead Rising: Chop Til You Drop apologist.

I'll only elaborate on Dead Rising here though. Honestly? It's not bad. Probably more so in the context of someone who only had a Wii as an option for a long time way back when, and who absolutely loved playing Resident Evil 4 on it. It'd never be on par or surpass the original on the Xbox 360, but some of the additions are definitely interesting or nice, like added enemy variety with the parrots or undead psychopaths. Some elements are compromised due to the platform, like the enemy count and truncated/condensed areas, but I feel those make it different rather than necessarily bad. It's 100% one I'd recommend if you love Dead Rising and want something a bit different to play through.
Chop till you drop running on the re4 engine blew my mind. Also zombie poodles were a funny addition and I think there were parrots too? Been a long long time since I played chop till u drop

Need to try this game out, I have always remembered the cover art, perhaps now it's time to be... a man.. in the shadows? hehe.
Yes it was a great game! Very creepy and other worldly with the deadside music and serial killers and what not! Also if you are going to try it, play one of the versions that doesn't allow you to save anywhere, it completely removes all the tension, fear and risk and therefore you lose the sense of accomplishment and reward!

CRAP! I forgot! My picks are both main post-TS era Silent Hill games (Homecoming and Downpour, moreso the latter) and F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. The latter in particular I feel is such a fantastic horror-shooter that rivals the iconic original with larger environments tailored to the GOAP AI that makes the series fun to play and supernatural scares and tension that the series is famous for. And it also boasts an incredibly dark, nihilistic storyline that is handled even better, revealing new parts of the lore involving Armacham, Alma, Project Origin and the fictitious city they reside in, and builds up a sense of dread that culminates in one of gaming's most famous downer endings.

No joke, one of the reasons why I despise F.3.A.R. so much is because of how obviously ghost written by corpos who hadn't played or seen footage of 2 it was, proven by how it seemed to actively distance itself from most of F.E.A.R. 2 and make Alma the victim again by retconning Harlan into the franchise's main villain, which was incredibly tone deaf given what we saw in past entries, especially in F.E.A.R. 2's ending.

I've loved "Paper Mario Sticker Star" on 3ds (first and only Paper Mario until now, I've watched gameplay of the acclaimed Thousand-Year-Door but I don't feel like playing it), and just recently I've found out that lots of people on forums think the 3ds one is a bad Paper Mario if not the worst.

Dawn Of Mana: played on emu last year, nice but sadly I haven't really loved it (also one of last bosses, the one in the huge room with stairs, almost made me throw away the controller, so frustrating).
100% agreeing on FF13, I bought a used and cheap xbox360 just to play it along with "Eternal Sonata" and enjoyed both.

Yeah, zombie parrots and poodles were a fairly early variant enemy that appeared. I think it then went Zombie Jo, Zombie Clint and Zombie Kent as the story progressed. Then when the military arrived they had the soldiers and the drones (I can't remember if the drones are unique to CTYD or not).

But yeah, until later I didn't notice just how many similarities and reused animations there were. The inventory and gunplay were obvious elements of course, but still.

I like Bethesda games. I like Fallout 3 a lot.
People like fallout 3. I know the game has some haters, but they've always been a vocal minority.

Double Dragon Revive - what few major critics reviewed it, don't like it, and even among double dragon fans, there's discourse. Really unnecessarily. The game has its flaws but it's still a good DD game and brawler. It's not better than Gaiden, but I enjoyed it more than Neon. It was the 2.5D DD game i always want it back during sixth generation. There's a lot of environmental activity, weapons, and a nice move list, but you have to figure out the combos yourself.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Don't know why, maybe 'cause I played it as a kid back in 2006 and I've never played The Sands of Time, which got much more love in the years (and a Remake too) but I come to love it. . Also, a few years ago I replayed it and gave me a lot of "vaporware" vibes.

Final Fantasy 2, Beyond the Beyond, Evolution Worlds, Legend of Dragoon and Koudelka are all games I love that seemingly are hated.

Maybe not ”love” but overall I always felt that Wrath of Cortex is just as bad or good as Crash 2 and 3 for the mostpart.

It has a lot of gimmick stages and is ugly as sin (especially compared to how good Crash 3 looks for its system), but it’s not all that different at its core.
