I start with The Mark Of Kri

King's Field IV. Back in the day it didn't get much attention and was panned by most critics. Even with Fromsoft's fame now, the series gets overshadowed by the Souls games.

I remember seeing this game gathering dust on a shelf at a friend's house

I recently bought a PS2, I will definitely try this game

Probably Gladius. Looks generic as all can be at first, but inside the game is a surprisingly good Tactical RPG.
I don't ever hear about it much anymore. A bit of a shame, really.

My pick would be Low G Man.
I usually link the title to the Repo but its not in the Repo which proves my point to some degree i think.

Its hard as per NES standard but it does things a different way. I got addicted to it when I found it in the before times and I still pick it up every now and again today.
Never got a sequel let alone any notice when it came out.

oh man, is the soundtrack done by the same people who did MadWorld? if so then it's gotta be worth checking out for that alone.

i'm always the first to mention it, but Crush for PSP deserved so much better. it's a really sick 3D puzzle platformer where you can switch between 2D and 3D, i love it to bits and wish more people knew about it. the original PSP version didn't sell super great, so in 2012 the company behind it made a 3DS "remake", and it even got an eShop demo which is where most people know it from... the remake totally guts the game of its unique art style and interesting story though, and probably left a bad impression on most people who played it.

I think I've heard about this game before, but anyway I'll put it on my download list too

Looks interesting, I'll definitely try it later

I just Googled both versions, assured that I hadn't heard about the 3DS remake until now, but I immediately recognized the cover and now I know why I never made the connection between the two. That said, I also never gave the PSP version a chance sadly. A cover is meant to be the first thing that sells you on the game, and with all due respect as I'm sure the game itself is great, the jawless dude on the cover utterly disgusted me. So when I see how cool his 3D model looks in-game I realise I missed out. Next time, SEGA, hire another cover artist.

MadWorld: was robbed by the combination of Wii exclusive on a console primarily used by families and children + the growing miscommunications between Platinum and Sega that also would doom Anarchy Reigns

Baroque: the best version wasn't localised. Glad it's seeing an audience now.

7th Dragon: 3/4 games weren't localised, leading to the last game to not get an audience compared to it's Atlus cousin, Etrian Odyssey

Castlevania X68000/Chronicles: wasn't localised until the age where 3D was all the rage, first step in the grave. It also wasn't released till the PS1 was about to die out, second foot in the grave. AAAAAAAND it wasn't ported to anything, buried with a marked grave

Custom Robo: Similar to 7th Dragon, most games besides the last two never made it out of Japan. It's also completely forgotten compared to other Nintendo franchises, which certainly didn't help.

Stella Glow: Competition was too fierce, even in terms of SEGA. Plus Imageepoch went out of business

eXceed 3rd: Doujin shmup, was never gonna take off. It's a miracle the final boss theme became so popular.

Mega Man ZX: The Mega Man burnout of the 2000s really hit this subseries in particular HARD

Shining Force III: We never got the full game

Street Fighter III Second/Double Impact: The reputation of Street Fighter 3 that's the sequel to New Generation and wasn't named Third Strike really screwed this game over

Gravity Circuit: I can't explain this one, how DID this get passed up for so long

Neon White: Stray's entire existence really did a number on anything that this game could've won. It's seeing play now though due to Alpharad so that's something.

Iconoclasts: It released 2 days before Celeste. OUCH.

Sunblaze: Also can't explain why this game is so obscure

Medarot: How did North America sleep on this franchise idk

Valis: Telenet wasn't a big name. Still aren't

Touhou 1-5: Let's be real, who knows how to set up a PC-98 in the West

Castlevania Rondo of Blood: Unlocalized and we only got the inferior versions. The only reason people know of it is because it's directly connected to the highly popular Symphony of the Night

Mega Man & Bass: ^ see Rondo of Blood but erase the talk of a sequel and make the localisation a shitty GBA port

The 8 Bit Sonic games: Because SEGA doesn't like to acknowledge them all that much either. They're one of the few Sonic games to be completely omitted from Sonic Generations, and that game has a remix from Sonic RIVALS. Well that and because the games are a mixed bag in gameplay and level design.

Vanillaware games: Probably because they're only now starting to make a name in the industry with 13S and Unicorn Overlord. Give it a few years, a port and a remaster and even Muramasa would be be iconic.

Ristar: "SEGA! Give me a sequel to Ristar and my life is yours!"

Man, I remember when Pitfall was THE game for a long time.

Anyway, Buffy the Vampire Slayer on original Xbox. It didn't get ported anywhere else, and being based on a show not everyone was watching, meant it didn't get as many eyes on it as it might've with a different license or just having a PS2 port. But what a fun one of these, and it looked so great at the time.

I could name several, but I am just gonna repeat a game I talked about in another thread I made myself.

Déraciné is my candidate, and I'm just gonna copypaste what I said earlier:

Another game I played last year, unfortunately exclusive to people with PS VR, two Move controllers and a camera, is an absolute gem of narration and world building known as Déraciné. This time made by Japan Studio and FromSoftware in 2018. I say unfortunately because the setup required means many haven't played it, but in 2025 where a PS4 VR setup is more affordable than ever, this game alone is more than worth the entry fee.

Without spoiling it sees you in the role of a newborn invisible fairy, one day appearing before a host of kids at what looks to be a boarding school. It starts off bright and whimsical, but as the story progresses dives deeper into something out of a Grimm's Fairytale.

The gameplay is a sort of 3D point n click (which is why I, who quickly get motion sick, was able to play it, as you don't walk around but "zap" around), and the gimmick is that time is on pause while you go around exploring. When you solve one of the game's very light puzzles, time then resumes for a brief moment where you see the kids react to what you just did, making them aware of your presence.

The kids all have warm well-mannered personalities, making you quickly grow to love and adore them and, like with Rain, want to see them make it through to the end (without spoiling), as the plot involving time travel plus the fairy's ability to transfer life between objects, quickly set about a chain of events spiralling out of control.

Like Rain, the game is rather short, clocking in at 6-8 hours, but is again well worth that time, with a powerful story told in a very short amount of time accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack that sets the tone perfectly.

One side of me wishes it was made for regular hardware so that more people could have access to it, but having played it myself, I'd say that VR 100% is part of what makes the game's world tick.

Pitfall: The Lost Expedition on PS2 and Wii was actually a pretty solid 3D platformer.
