I like others enjoyed the kings field / shadow tower titles, and often i would like to visit other titles on other systems which offer a similar format. So towards that effort, i have found the following titles that have a similar tone and play style, which i have watched videos for, and have motivated me to give them a try.

Please take a look and let me know what you think, and what your experience of these games are if any, and if you think they are worth the play though?

Are there other titles you guys can recommend?

Shadow gate 64
This looks very like kings field, and the player even dies the same way. Allot of mystery, and tone is also very similar. I am told this has a wider series, which i may also give a try.

Dungeon master Nexus, this also has a very similar tone, the play stay is not quite the same, but i get the same comfy dungeon crawler feelings when i have tried this as i had with kings field if that makes sense. U know you can say dungeon crawlers in general are the same, but kings field games just hit different. Quite a few of the enemies in this game would could also happily be in kings fiend/ shadow tower and would not look out of place.

Wizardry, not quite the same, but the tone is spot on imo. This game i think would be more at home as a Sega CD game considering how it presents. But i still think it hits the same tonal notes, while being a bit more busy inthe menus.

Not retro related but i see some kind of resurgence in interest in the kings field series and many indie devs are trying to make games similar to those. I bet it will become an even more popular formula in the future just like the resident evil and silent hill inspired games are nowadays. I won't lie, they sometimes get too repetitive in how they try to straight up copy each other
But some a good example i can give is Lunacid
The influences are very very clear but it has is own nice twist

Also fuck yeah, Shadowgate is the shit

I would HIGHLY recommend Stonekeep! It was released in 1995 for PC and has been released on Steam for modern systems. In my opinion it is what King's Field wanted to be... teammates join you, voice acting, puzzles and many many hidden secrets.

If you're looking for dungeon crawlers then late 80s and early 90s had a lot of them. Just look into Strategic Simulations Inc. They published quite a few games on the D&D license, like Pool of Radiance or Eye of the Beholder. If you're looking for something more modern then maybe Legend of Grimrock would be up your alley.

Since gore already mentioned Lunacid (there's also Lunacid - Tears of the Moon, a free prequel made using FromSoft's own official dev tool for King's Field fan games, Sword of Moonlight), I thought I'd throw three other modern King's Field hommages that I can recommend into the mix as well:

FlyKnight, a super cheap and very charming little game. The combat has some quite interesting ideas behind it, too. More a Soulslike than a King's Field...like (?), but still.

Devil Spire, a King's Field roguelike, pretty much. Surprisingly good, with highly varied build options!

And finally, Labyrinth of the Demon King, a fusion of survival horror and KF-style DRPG set in a demon-infested version of medieval Japan. Very oppressive, dense atmosphere and, again, a surprisingly clever combat system. Very challenging at first and very much a horror game, so keep that in mind.

(I've seen people compare this one to Silent Hill for some reason, but I think that's pretty much just down to this game also featuring a lot of fog, as that's about all these games share)

This game is basically a love letter to kings field.
Lunacid is a dark fantasy dungeon crawler inspired by Shadow Tower and King’s Field.

Thanks guys, some awesome recommendations. Going to try these all out, adding them to the list.

Recently found something called Tekwar in my efforts to look for other games like you guys have mentioned. Looks more like an Fps like doom, but with puzzle elements?

About to start watching the retrospective on it from Majuular, who seems to have a lot of dungeon crawler stuff on his channel.

Any opinions?

Be warned that this game emulates the feeling of '80s DnD RPGs and hates your guts. If you need a guide, there's a pretty great one on Gamefaqs. Lawful is better for holy magic, Chaotic is better for mage magic. Also, use the estoc and sleep spell.

Does Baroque count? First person action dungeon crawler, but is horror themed instead of fantasy.

Theres a few on PC that come to mind, namely Legend of Grimrock sorta gives me a KF IV feelView attachment 76404

Arx Fatalis is another good one.
Oh wow, this looks fricking sick!

EDIT: oh dear, stated to be a mobile game first. Do you know if there are gotcha mechanics in it? Just making sure, as i can see it is on switch, and i may pick this up if there are not "mobile" centric design elements within, i am not a fan of those.
