It's an open world jrpg that takes inspiration from tabletop roleplaying games and western rpgs. It doesn't play like a jrpg at all other than having a turn based battle system. It also doesn't really play like a lot of western rpgs either. It's kind of it's own thing. Party building and character ability customization is super deep and rewarding. The quest system is probably closest to something like Majora's Mask. There's an event ranking system that increases as you fight battles that progresses time in the game. Different quests become available or unavailable as your event rank increases. There's 8 starting characters with different short intro stories with varying amounts of linearity and then you're just dropped off into a world to adventure around and recruit a party and complete quests and stuff. It's a lot of fun if you like the idea of having your own unique adventure in a world that feels like things are happening around you.
