Hi everyone!

A friend of mine has an interesting project: he wants to build an arcade cabinet with arcade controls based on a PlayStation 1 for use in a bar.

I need your help selecting games that:

-Were ported from arcade machines to the PS1.

-Or are perfectly suited for arcade-style controls.

-Support 2 players (this is a must).

-Any genre works: fighting, shooters, racing, platformers, etc.

If you have any suggestions or experience with a similar project, I’d love to hear your advice and game recommendations!
Thanks in advance!

Uh, he's trying to shove a PS1 into a custom made arcade cabinet and play PS1 games on it, am I reading that right?

I'm not against the idea in any way I'm just a dumbo and need clarification.

Yes, that’s exactly right! It will look like an arcade cabinet styled after the original PlayStation 1 design. Inside, there will be a PlayStation 1 equipped with PSIO, allowing games to run directly from a memory card. The controls will feature classic arcade sticks, adding authenticity and delivering the true arcade experience.

In that case it's pretty simple - Tekken, Soul Edge (aka Soul Blade), Street Fighter Ex and Alpha, Darkstalkers, Dead or Alive, Ridge Racer, Metal Slug, Micro Machines, Bushido Blade, Future Cop L.A.P.D, Rival Schools, Twisted Metal, Worms, Bishi Bashi and Crash Team Racing should keep you busy for a while and it's just scratching the surface really.

At first I thought you were looking for like Arcade games that run on a PS1, like, with the same/similar architecture, lol.
I was gonna suggest Ghoul Panic, a light shooter game that did fit that case, lol. I suppose it can very well fit your idea too, but you'd need a PS1 light gun controller, and also, if you're using original hardware, those only work for them hella old CTR TVs, uh.

If instead you're basically gonna turn a PC into a PS1 emulator machine, I'm aware there are light gun controllers that do work with modern screens, and can be used on emulators, iirc, but don't know much outside of that fact, mh.

Strikers 1945
Strikers 1945 II
Team Buddies
Chocobo Racing
Crisis Beat
Sled Storm
Psychic Force
X
Evil Zone
Marvel vs Capcom
X-Men vs Street Fighter
Batman Arcade
Kaettekita Cyborg Kuro-chan

I built me a cab, put with 6 gb of HDD in it and put most every system and MAME in it.. pic included. I made it out of a broken Aracde1up cabinet.
Some 2 player games I would include
Marvel vs Capcom
X-Men vs Street Fighter
Raystorm
RayCrisis
(if you set up a couple wii motes using motion joy and a wii sensor you can use them as light guns, can be a pain. Or by a Sinden set of light guns and hook ups.. opens up a lot more 2 player games for ps1, even MAME if you choose to use it)

Cabinet wise I am all about PC builds using emulators, cabinets aren't cheap to build, why limit your game selection to 1 system? lol Maybe thats just me. Good luck with your build either way

Well some examples that could help you are:
Mortal kombat 4
Bloody roar 1 and 2
The Jojo game
Those Metal slug ports
Some street fighter ports
And the Namco museum volumes.

Good luck with the invention!

yeah i have a spare cabinet i plan to do something similar with when i get time..
the LCD screen works but the controls are not wired to anything so i need ideas
maybe a cheap pc for the guts and some kind of pc compatible arcade controls to replace the current broken ones? also have a sinden light gun so it could potentially be a dedicated light gun machine.
i have another working one with MAME games but i wunna do something with this box 🤷

Love the cabinet!! Yea don't need much of a pc to run things, I spent right at $200 to build the PC in my CAB.
ALso I recommend Diyretroarcade https://www.diyretroarcade.com/ , that's where I get all my parts and the prices are great , customer service is top notch.

Pretty much just Any Fighting Game/Racing game, and some As said above Metal Slug/Simpsons Arcade type games. Tho tossing a Batocera pc in the Cab would Yeld alot more playability <Still could use PS1, but switch to another Game system, when they wanted to, so it wouldn't become Stale>
if you're Friend wanted to change it on occasion, and a Shit-ton more co-op games <as in the Whole M.A.M.E. Arcade Collection> Gunners Heaven/Rapid Reload is a Must for PS1
<Yes i will Always Advise Batocera for a Arcade Cabinet>
