In the days before, Devs created opening intros that gave the player a general idea about their game and its gameplay.
Some video games had great intros but had its gameplay look nothing like it, sometimes nothing at all.
List a few video games that had a complete 180 in terms of gameplay vs what you saw in the intro.

Ehhhhh...

I remember so, so many anime intros in playstation and saturn games that had nothing to do with the actual game. Not sure much has changed, really.

Digimon games were infamous for this. You'd get some incredible, action-heavy intro promising high-spec, fast-paced battles between giant mechanical dinosaur creatures... and then all the games were slow-paced, methodical menu games built around repetition and tedium. Bandai, if there is any justice in the world, you'll get yours. ?

Special punches go to Digimon: Digital Card Battle, which replaces a lovely original Japanese theme with the re-used American one from the TV show. ? ? ?

Literally any intro for a rhythm game to be honest, although to be fair, how would you make a intro out the gameplay of beatmania and the like?

Ohhh I absolutely despise this. Like any time you look at a trailer vid for anything anime related, it's like two minutes of flashy anime splash screens, and animation, and I'm left like "Okay cool, that's a lot of anime you got there, but what does the game look like? You know, the part I'm going to play?" I wouldn't say it's a move that hurts sales, but it's certainly enough for me to click away and go look at something else.

Honestly, I just miss when games had intros in general. Say giving you an idea of what the plot is like, or showing you gameplay, or just anything at all. Most games now, after the initial splash screens, just drop you at the title/menu screen, and in one hand, suppose it makes getting to the game quicker, but in the other, at least personally, it makes me feel like something's missing, mh.

A example of this topic that I remember the most is the intro of Dragon Ball GT Final Bout ?
