Even though my early childhood was owned by Nintendo, I have to go with SEGA.

The GENESIS Model I had absolutely blown my mind with all those shiny features and design choices that simply weren't available anywhere else (at least to my kiddie knowledge), like the headphone jack. It also just looked elegant and sophisticated with its mixture of white, red and black.

And then, many years later, I got a Dreamcast and got to experience the majesty of the VMU, which sealed the deal.

I want to say SEGA, but I've never actually played anything on a SEGA console.
Probably PlayStation for me by default.
The Wii & Switch 2 bring Nintendo down a few points for me, and all my Xbox 360's that got the red rings pretty much disqualify Xbox altogether!

Hard choice honestly but I went with Nintendo just for the SNES, GBC and GBA.

Playstation is a close second to me though, great hardware and great games!

My heart wants me to pick Sega, but in all honesty the only Sega console I've ever used was the Dreamcast. Microsoft pretty much died for me after the 360, and while Nintendo would be the nostalgic choice, I don't think I could give it to them. With all that said, I have to go with Sony. They had a legendary run from the mid 90's all through the 2000's with the 3 PlayStations and the PSP, plus their consoles arguably having the greatest game libraries of all time.

The GOAT, and it's more obvious now in 2025 than ever before

We miss you Sega, and we're still waiting

Honestly, I played computer games way more than console games when I was growing up. My favorite being Amiga. Now I can't say what my favorite console brand is. I guess Nintendo only because a lot of their games are exclusive, not available on PC (unless you um... get on board the pirate ship). With Sony and Microsoft (PS and XBox) I can find almost all their stuff on Steam. My game sources are pretty cluttered, like, I use an old Windows XP computer for older games (better compatibility) and a souped-up modern computer for everything else. It's a little too much especially when I need over 6TB just for video games. Backing all that up is a mess.

I agree about PlayStation which is why it was the console I used the most before I got an actual Windows computer. A lot of PlayStation RPGs for me are non-forgettable

Oh gosh... the red rings. I've been there.

It really is Sega. And this is coming from someone who got started with Atari and Nintendo consoles.

If I had to flip this list, though, I'd but Sony dead last. They've made - by far - the most unreliable consoles I've ever owned! My first PlayStation had disc-read issues, and got to the point where it would only read discs correctly if I flipped it upside-down, tilted at a 45-degree angle. My first PS2 died within a year of owning it. And my PS3 got the dreaded "Yellow Light of Death."

I never bothered with the PS4 and onward. Three strikes, and Sony was out! But my experiences with their consoles did teach me a valuable lesson about the dangers of being an early adopter.

I do love my PSP 3000. It might very well be my favorite bit of Sony-built hardware. But it has developed blotches on the screen, and the UMD drive no longer works. And the joystick is super stiff and chonky. Meanwhile, my first Game Boy still fires right up and has a relatively clear screen, with nice, responsive buttons. And my childhood Atari 2600 still works like a champ. Same goes for my NES, Super Nintendo, and N64.

I've had some minor reliability issues with various Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast consoles I've owned, so Sega is kind of in the middle of all of this. But as far as their console features, controller quality, and forward-thinking nature, I have to put them on top.

By and large, Nintendo has had an excellent track record for reliability and build quality, in my experience. At least, until the disc-based consoles. My first Gamecube stopped reading discs within a few months of buying it, but I was able to send it back to them for a repair under warranty. My first Wii also developed vertical lines on the screen after a few months. It was also repaired under warranty, for free in both cases. So I do give Nintendo credit for standing my their products.

Can't really comment on Microsoft. I'd actually have to buy one of their consoles first 😝

All the replies in this thread are wrong, the only correct answer is are The big cats of Tiger Electronics:

Sega. Everything I own STILL WORKS. No special screws like Nintendo to open them up.
Nintendo second because of the screws.
These big two knew how to make dependable shit.

SNK third for me. My NEO GEO AES, issue aside like mono sound output, it still works. The joysticks when you feel them for the first time with that "clickyness".... It feels NICE...

On the other hand...

Sony? Sigh... My first gen PS 1 gave out 1999. Got to the point before it gave out, have to put the fucking thing on its side for FMVs to quit skipping. Gee is that why you put the PS2 upright?
X Boxs- The battery shit on the first XBox, 360 disk tray giving out, grrr....
"Just buy another one bro, you can afford it..." FUCK YOU, I shouldn't have to buy another console, giving a company profit to keep making substandard product that doesn't last.

Hey look, that's a PRO and Diskless version and VR with and - - Ah shut up.

3 people so far have chosen other. I think I should've added NEC and SNK to the poll...
