Been getting mad high on speculative biology lately - thinking about lots of alien species from science fiction and was wondering what sorta creatures you guys like. Feel free to ramble uncontrollably if you want because I sure as shit will.

Absolutely no "they're humans but with blue skin and telepathy" or other pseudo-fantasy races will be tolerated - this one is for the eggheads.

Here are some of my top picks:
Xenomorph.webp

Xenomorphs - Obvious classic; these guys are what first sparked my interest in this sorta crap. I also like that the penis-headed, penetrator monster has lots of parallels to femininity, and I find it cool that they're usually compared to bugs and serpents.
Metroids.jpg

Metroids - They have a lot of cool aspects like being a predatory unicellular organism, going through stages of shedding, and feeding on an unknown energy source, but I really just like the mystique of them. Having been gradually explored over many years through vague in-game references does a lot for them. Also, their name literally comes from "Metro Subway" and "Android", however, unbeknownst to the devs, Metroid translates into "mother-like" in ancient Greek which I think is so perfect for the series.
The Thing.webp

The Thing (Organism) - Another unicellular one. This thing is just hardcore. I like that it's a creature that's hard to pin down - for everything we know about it, there are ten things we don't. Btw, I watched this film in the cinema last night and if you ever get the opportunity I highly recommend it. I've seen this film at least 10 times but the auditory experience in a cinema was unparalleled.

Bioraptors - Something something perfect predators, something something grounded in real-world biology... I just think they're cute. Look at the way the baby clings to the mother in the concept art (they will most certainly eat them when food is low). They're an obvious derivative of Xenomorphs but they're THE PERFECT derivative of Xenomorphs yenno?
Weeping_Angel.jpg

Weeping Angels - Just sheer influence alone. The premise is so writhe with potential for media endeavours that it genuinely shocks me no one really explored it before. These guys completely transcend their status as "Doctor Who monster" into something almost folk-lore-esque and that's mighty impressive.
Hounds.png

Hounds of Tindalos - These guys aren't as popular so let me explain: anti-dimensional beasts that prey on time-travellers. They exist outside the vectors of reality and enter our world through sharp corners of "120° or less", and being aware of them makes them aware of you. Frankly, it's hard to get much more alien than these guys - they're a being on a complete different level to anything in our world, and yet they still hunt and eat just like everything else. Some interpretations try to frame them as some sort of 'agents of the time stream', working to fix time when meddling goes awry, but I I always felt that was cringe and prefer them as just otherworldly jackals looking for a good meal. (btw the picture used is very inaccurate to what little is described of them, all the other pics I saw were worse though)
Yithian.jpg
Great Race of Yith.PNG

Yithians - Hard to get much more classic than these guys. They're the sorta alien my nan would come up with and I mean that in the best possible way. I like that, for as different as they are, they're also very human in a way. They're completely, biologically abstracted from from us in just about every way yet we can still recognise an equal - possibly even more advanced - culture that mirrors our own. Also, in the Call of Cthulhu videogame (the beloved one), a Yithian took control of some guy to bang and impregante his wife, and that certainly is something...

Yautja because of their techs.
