Hot take here, but i like the sound of loud fans, give me a cool running PC that stays cool with a big noise, over ones that run hot and quite.

I clean my consoles and PC's regulerly, but keep the fan speed on high RPM to keep them cool.

It is strange, and might be my age, or the years and years of working in server rooms. Could it be Stockholm syndrome where i have gotten used to the fans assaulting me that i miss it?

Whats your opinion on loud fan noise in your consoles, and pcs?

I agree in the same way one can appreciate the whirrs and sounds of old mechanical hard drives, or having nostalgia for the 56k dialup sound.

Though from a lifetimes experience of fans from silent to sounding like that of a jet engine, my general fan noise preference is quiet enough such that it does not aurally pollute anything else (i.e, i can still hear it with heaphones on etc).

I do agree there is some indescribable thing to the sound of computer fans and general computer operational sounds. Something reassuring. I'm sure your server room experience has heightened this sense and contributed to this feeling.

(now excuse me while i huff the steam deck vent smell)

edit: oh, also, this reminded me when i booted up my nearly 20 year old original xbox. those fans were fuckin LOUD holy shit you don't realize until you power one on in current year

100% agree, i actively make an effort to put in a pc speaker, just to hear the post beep. Just so reassuring.

Gimme them PC speaker bleeps like i'm playing a shitty old DOS platformer ::winnie

You are a person of culture! Do not forget the awesome sounds of floppy drives, we have to show them floppies more love!

One of the main reasons i subscribed to this channel is the plane noises. The noises of motors and machines are so relaxing to me

My brain associates it with potential PC trouble so I don't know if I appreciate fan noise too much, but I do like disk drive noises.

Considering I love the noise of a Dreamcast or PSP screaming at you as reads the inserted disc, I'm convinced any sound can be comforting to the right individual

PC's are rarely bad for fan noise unless it's a laptop with crappy cooling. I rarely hear the fans in my desktop. But something like a PS4 Is ridiculous.

Excessive noise means trouble, and so does no noise at all (something has failed), so as with many things, moderation is golden, I suppose.

No reason to hear sound when idle.
When gaming I limit the FPS to 170 (My monitor's refresh rate). I used to disable VSync and let it go to 240 but there wasn't any noticeable difference, probably due to the monitor (they say you can benefit from more frames in input lag even if the monitor doesn't show them but I didn't notice). At 240 the graphics sounds like a jet engine, I hate that. I rather lower the graphics settings and not hear the noise.

You can notice if you are playing competitive games, especially competitive FPS games, but otherwise it's too small of a difference and meaningless for normal gaming
