I've been playing on and off with emulation to explore some libraries I never got to experience in the day. Do you have an opinions on the famicom disk system? I'm staring at the library and reading some tier lists.

I also wanna take a minute to make everyone aware of Diskun, the mascot for the system. The single best nintendo maskot ever concieved. Not to be dramatic, but i would die for him.

I've known Diskun for only five seconds and I already love him.

It seems like most people are more enamoured with the hardware and what is was, than they are with any of the games themselves.

i have one. it's finicky as hell, and straight up doesn't work at times (usually when i'm trying to show it off to someone IRL) but damn if i don't love it. definitely my fave way to play Zelda 1 & 2.

Always thought the Famicom disc where neat, saw them... many many years ago in nintendo power i think, they where showing the Super Famicom, and showed the Famicom.

also how i first saw Diskun

I have a Famicom Disk System and what's neat is that the Disk System add-on has the same output as the NES. So you can use a North American NES' AC power adapter and the Disk System will work.

Disk system has some awesome games. The Mysterious Murasame Castle, Ai Senshi Nicol, and Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa are favorites.

I wanna play Shin Onigashima but I don't understand how to run a Lua Script english translation.

I've never really found the FDS versions of games that were ported to cartridge were worth playing over the nes version except for Metroid because you can save. The extra music and SFX in the Zelda games are ok but not really worth it. The FDS version of Zelda 2 is arguably quite a bit worse than the nes version. A lot of fds games were fixed and updated when they were ported to the nes.

Aside from Metroid and Castlevania 3 yea, there wasn't typically a incentive to play fc over nes since more often than not they just ended up being the same game with minor differences (or major differences, in the case of castlevania 2's ear-splitting famicom ost)

It's really interesting from an historical point of view and it does have some interesting exclusive games even if it's mostly shovelware.

It's where SD Gundam got it's start though and that's cool, especially how it led to SRW.

Yes, it looks cool but that's basically it. Everybody knows about the Disk System but few actually like it or play the games

Color me surprised, I thought everybody knew about the little guy, it's probably the most famous thing about the FDS aside from Mario 2
