i just wonder if people does like me , searching game to game on data bases or internet archive vaults like CDromance in alphabetical order , playing a selection of games fished out from those and playing a bit then picking just on or two to actually finish .
i always liked to do that even when i was a little kid , i use to do the same whit the games of my uncles and aunt.
if do so what are your method's
from my part apart from what i mention i have markes of those sites mention, organized into consoles' or computer era ,in itself on company folders.
i have different options on those sites just in case they disappear or something , if i can play the games i just watch reviews and put a no definitive score to the game
i use to use base data sites to manage my scores and such but one of them disappear and the other wen brok and abandon , so i abandoned that method , now i use excel to do list of games ...base on them i chose what game search for, buy them or download .

if so , what is your method when exploring or searching for a new game ?-
even if you don't do and exhaustive method

My uncle has a friend who, since I was a kid has been downloading media like on a 24 hour basis and when his drives get full he goes to burning this data onto dvds. Last time I was at this mans house his guest bathroom was full from floor to ceiling with DVD spindles. In the shower on the sinks. Completely wild. He's been pirating for a solid 25 years non stop.

Some people think wow what a waste, but in 48 hours this dude can pull up anything from the collection of the entire Internet from the last two decades (apps, games, videos, pictures, music,) and burn you copies of it.

Wicked ocd Asian guy but a genius.

I mostly just run around the archived versions of former greats (like Home Of The Underdogs) to see what I missed, then I make a note of the things that picked my interest and try to find multiple places that offer those things. I have over 500 bookmarks just related to that obsession.

I've found so many great games from channels like That Video Game Show and Just Jamie. TVGS shows a compilation of games while Just Jamie shows a comparison of different ports

For example, something they've uploaded recently

I basically pull goodsets of stuff when possible, then go through based on a game's name or whatever kick I'm on at the moment. I don't know how to play mahjong so those are pretty easy skips for me, but if I decide that I'm gonna play every Arthur game or whatever, having a bunch of stuff at my fingertips makes it easy.

When I was younger I used to use things like jdownloader to go crazy but nowadays I try to carefully curate a library, obviously I do like to collect all of the games for any system but what I've found is if I download lots of games all at once I don't really appreciate them. It just feels like I have a to do list to go through and it's off putting, the only time I mass download is if I think a site is going down or there's going to be a crackdown like a while back when Iphone got emus so Nintendo's enrage timer triggered.

I tend to be very selective, and so I don't really browse per se. Recommendation videos from good channels are helpful, and I tend to go fetch something with my mind already made.

Nintendo has two crucial differences from Monster Hunter Monsters:
1 - They are always enraged.
2 - They don't get fatigue, they make us tired instead.

I'm not a media guy, and don't touch youtube or such unless absolutely necessary. and honestly this forum is the first place i have ever signed up to!
no discord, no facebook, no instagram, no telegram, etc... (My username is not JustLooking123 for no reason! at that time, this site was supposed to be like others too, a place just for looking!)

so yeah... i always used to find my games myself.
I used to look in emuparadise, reading comments of games there, looking at their screenshots, and most importantly the file size of game!

The most important criteria indicating that i would get a game or not was its file size!
Where i live, internet used to be very expensive, downloading 600mb would cost a lot more than buying a cd!

so yeah, i downloaded most of games that were small in file size, and obviously psx games were not an option for me!
That was until a few years ago when internet finally got cheaper.
at that time, emuparadise was long gone, and cdr was my friend!
so i looked there for games, reading comments, looking at screenshots, but this time for bigger games! ?

that continued until i came here!
nowadays i spend all the time which was intended for gaming here, because this forum is the best best game ever! ?

you gotta give me some visual aid, cover art, screen, or a very easy quick way to get into the meat of the game, i want to go through them all, but i also want to go fast fast, even minor hurdles like the clunky cdromance image viewer can sometimes make me rage quit

With my weird work schedule, and other life stuff going on, balancing when to play, and in this case, WHAT to play, can be hard.

I usually start with games I used to play when I was younger (mostly ps2 titles and some gamecube stuff) but then I get a sudden itch to play other titles; games I never heard of or just never played even once.

My advice is stick to genres and types of games you know at heart (action, rpg, adventure, etc.) and then see what other titles do for you.

Or, and I've been doing this quite a bit lately, playing co-op games with your friend(s) and or significant other. Lots of co-op/split-screen titles out there, even nowadays. (Have you even SEEN Steam and Epic lately? It's pretty crazy.)

That's the beauty if gaming and sites like this: You can discover some pretty cool gems here that were just hiding there underneath all that rubble.

Hope this helps.

in my country, i think only the sony systems were ever sold until the gameboy hit the shelves, so i grew up in a world with no conception of an n64, genesis or gamecube. so even though i've been emulating stuff since i was a kid, there's still dozens of systems that i've never even heard of (mostly sega systems lol).

so i did this 'exhaustive exploration' thing with the sega saturn. i'd never heard of the system until a few months ago when i learned about the princess crown translation which everyone was talking about. to me this was a 'brand new' system, so i spent like a week reading up on every game it had, and building up a large collection of stuff. getting obsessive with curation can be fun, but the only game i ever really ended up putting any time into was panzer dragoon saga.

Where i live, NES, Sega MegaDrive and PSX were common consoles when i was kid, there was no SNES as far as i know...
I guess a good reason for it was the fact that no one could read english, nor japanese, so any rpg game was a no-go.

a very smart aproche, i do that for other things that don´t give me the same feeling of discovery as games or animation

i mostly spend my childhood playing sony console games some of pc games and GBA games , so i as well was very curious about other consoles , specially sega ones ... not a single person i know at the time has a sega sistem so it was the most mysterious to me .
