I'm NOT talking about playing an RPG, but about setting up a character sheet, get on OOC (Out-Of-Character) discussions, and posting as that character on active role-playing threads around a forum or site.

I was never into it myself, but a sizable portion of my communities were avid players and were frequently starting and finishing these (the most recent one still going at the time of posting), as well as "dueling" as their characters.

It was pretty fascinating to see (and even kinda beautiful), since most of them had been at it for years, so you can actually see the evolution of their personalities, writing styles, and even intelligence through years upon years of those adventures -- there was some wild passion and creativity shinning through what were, essentially, large text walls shoved on the corner of some forums, and they even got ME to follow their whacky and suspenseful campaigns for a while, which isn't easily done.

They were also surprisingly effective tools that helped me choose moderators, since they often showcased people's abilities to manage discussions, avoid conflicts, and enforce their own rules in public, which gave me a lot of insight on what they could do for the community if given the chance -- two of my most trusted "cops" came right from the RP ranks.

Ever did this yourself?

Well, yeah, I mean I role play all the time - just list night in fact with my...oh...OH! Wait, you mean the other kinda role play with the funny dice.

Yep, nope, never role played before at all.

I used to back in the day with my real life friends we’re in this forum and that’s kinda how it started they said that it’s a jungle out there and you better arm yourself so I kinda developed this persona which is more brash and unhinged version of myself.
Don’t worry that alter ego of mine is long retired and he won’t be coming here anytime soon.

Yep one time in forum where we role play as a suspect who is the killer where we roll the dice of on player fate and find out what happened to teammates

(But I tell you who is the killer)
It was me and I also won because no one suspect me

I was the DM for my brother and sister in Dungeons and Dragons. Unfortunately, playing with close relatives can be a pain since you're so familiar with each other, they'll try to haggle and re-haggle you for rerolls. The other problem was getting them both available for a session and coinciding with all of you in the mood for D&D.

We only managed to play a few sessions all in all and managed to finish a whole module at least and half of a new one.

And I had this lovely campaign planned where this demon prince in the guise of my sister's character's godfather was going to trick them into killing the latter. Many years later, I spilled the beans to my sister and she said she would have burst into tears if I succeeded. Figures.

Yeah, a few times. Sadly mostly suffering through less than ideal Dungeon Masters.

I've got an ongoing ttrpg session that fills this void, but when I was a bit younger I was into some of the role-playing forums.

I remember having a total blast running through RPs based on some of my favourite shows and games. I did have one or two weird experiences that made me dip tho.

I distinctly remember having someone DM cus they wanted to do a 1 on 1 RP of Mirai Nikki (which i hadn't read before) so I went to check it out and discovered it was mostly the Yandare relationship they wanted to RP ::bonzistares

The only other funny incident was when I started a Hellboy RP and someone who signed up didn't post and when I asked them why they had a full-blown rant about how the RP wasn't like the original Hellboy and we'd filled it with "anime bullshit"

As an avid Hellboy fan, he deffo had a point lmao but I think most of the other players were fans kf the movie, not the comics. It was bound to happen with a more general crowd and loose rules on what constituted a hellboy character.

We should get an RP section in "Forum Games & Chatter" might be interesting to see what RGT does with it lmao
