This thread is about games old and new that you thoughted or hoped that are cool, interesting but when you played them it was frustrating bad nothing what you though it would be so you quitted.

I will go first on my recent disappointment.

I was hoping that it will be a lot more than what it is truly, controls too conky even worse than old LEGO games, music lame and even after almost an hour nothing special a monotiling phase of the same circle. My gf has a thing about anything in the DC and MARVEL universe, i tried this one hoping to let her join in my world of gaming but this was a complete let down.

I really tried but nothing... not even a spec of fun, i felt Zero absolute 0 nothing. Wasted my time.

If I have to go with my pick, it would have to be Yoshi's Story.

For a sequel to Yoshi's Island, what were they thinking about changing the vibe of the game to absolutely fit the minds of straight up toddlers? The ganeplay format has also been changed to a more confusing one that still confuses me to this day, the story is... meh and to keep you on edge, losing a life is like losing a finger on your hand. I even reviewed this game a while ago:

never played it but it looks awesome.
I was expecting the usual Ninja Gaiden gameplay, this one is more like TMNT beat em ups.
It's not boring or anything, I was just dissapointed. Maybe if they call it something else I'd keep my expectation low.

Warriors Orochi 4, boring af. I've played other musou, but this one it's the only I didn't like.

The worst of the Ninja Gaiden trology.

I never got too excited for something so that's a bit hard, maybe Spyro: Eternal Night for the NDS. One of those games where even when you expect nothing, it'll still somehow disappoints you

in my case it was

lovely game but i fell way too clunky, too grindy and a boring predictable story, i was really hoping to be something that it will never will,

Diablo 3. Tbh the game's alright but it didn't live up to my expectations. I'd been waiting for it for years, following all sorts of rumors and 'leaks' so when it finally got announced the hype was unreal. Possibly the first and the last time I jumped on the hype train and it soured my experience.

This is why I think Valve will never make Half-Life 3. People will crucify Gabe Newell no matter how good the game turns out because there's no way it could ever live up to their expectations.

I will always regret grabbing Sonic 06 pretty much right on release 🤦‍♂️.
Loved Adventure 1, 2 & basically destroyed any love I had for Sonic Team (and remaining for the sonic franchise) in a single afternoon, tried to force myself through it - but we all know how awful this 'game' was.

Adventure 2 Battle will always be one of my all time nostalgic favs, no taking that from me however :)
One of these days I might try the fan remastered 06, if I can stomach the PTSD flashbacks :ROFLMAO:

Frankly, just after another experience approaching Adventure 2 Battle (or Adventure 1) - Didnt buy Sonic Teams as I didnt like the 3 character based gameplay, but it appeared decent.
I couldve gotten over the lack of the Chao Garden (devastated to not see that included, but not entirely unexpected) - but well, everything about this game from the get go, was jarring and well... bad.

The weird world with the uncanny valley humans, the princess & sonic being a thing.. I couldve also (maybe) excused that if the gameplay was passable, it was not - it was so much worse than any previous game, to the point completing certain sections was (I feel) almost impossible to do properly - And even if you did manage to nail the section.. the bugs! Falling through the ground, loops just wonking out, it was actually pretty crazy to experience.
~ Its still frankly pretty amazing to see this game got released in such a state.

I finally gave up with a rage quit - never touched the game again (which I dont think Ive really done with another game) after playing the Silver sections where you had to roll the ball (you could only move a number of times) around the small obstacle course - which had holes, if the ball went in, or you moved too many times, complete reset.

I was there for a good hour or more, the time has become fuzzy (at I believe the last obstacle course they threw at you) and just noped out - Havent actually revisited the Sonic franchise since (not out of hate or anything though).
I did watch the Game Grumps rage at the exact same section when they did it (and got past it) - it was very cathartic I wont lie :ROFLMAO:

Why they included that element in a sonic game broke me - As someone who did games programming at college afterwards (I was probably like 15 at the time )(and has a big amount of Game Design knowledge via osmosis) this decision I can only see as a way to pad out the game, and in such a cruel way towards the player (even if unintended from the design team).. well, a bad decision for sure and one I'll always remember and associate with this game, sonic team & sonic.

Anyways, sorry for the rant - I hope it was enjoyable 😂
Am glad somebody enjoyed the experience where I couldnt :)

At least the sandbox itself is pretty fun on 5. Also I think that after 4, kojima got tired perhaps. 1 and 3 are still my favourites.
Oh yeah, the gunplay and gun customization itself was amazing and even the fairly small base management stuff, but everything else around that was a complete disappoint to me with it mainly being the story for some obvious reasons.

I can't remember exactly where I read it, but around the release of 4 he had been saying in interviews that he felt pressured by fans more or less to make 4 and didn't really want to. I entirely believe that's why the game is as retcon heavy as it is, because he just wasn't really in it and wanted to subvert fan expectations. I think that definitely carried forth into 5 as well where he was most definitely trying to subvert fans who were expecting a finished game where you play as Big Boss.

For me, it was a PS2 RPG called Unlimited Saga. I always loved the Saga games - especially Saga Frontier 2. This game was a huge departure from that one in a lot of ways. Rather than running around a big world and exploring things yourself, the game was presented almost like a visual novel. It was basically all static images and scene descriptions when you weren't in combat. Like the rest of the Saga games, the combat was weird as hell. This time it wasn't in a way that felt intriguing or like I wanted to explore it. The dungeons were just more panels of static images with brief descriptions and it just felt cheaply made. I was younger then, so maybe I was just too dumb to appreciate it. I'll try it again now that I'm older and not as stupid lol.

i will never forgive this one. this is the game that made me realize steam reviews are worthless other than to see if the game crashes or bugs out. people dont know anything about videogames this one SUCKS and its a shame cause the concept is pretty good i played it and got the normal ending and almost got the true ending because i really wanted to like it but its just bad the level design is bad the combat choices are bad i really hope the team behind it killed and ditched the gameplay designers.

dumbasses really played it for the lore and thought that made a game good and its just not enough.

Vanilla Ninja Gaiden 3. Spent an entire afternoon gaslighting myself into trying to believe it wasn't the way it was. At least Razor's Edge means I never have to involuntarily think of it anymore.

This game is great, imho.
