I don't know about "remaster", doesn't seem super accurate...

Looks cool though, DW 3 was the first REAL Dynasty Warriors game and still one of the best. I'm very happy to not hear the shitty English dub, but that might be included as an option for weirdos who like seeing bad voice actors make a mockery of good games. I wonder if this will run well on the Switch 1 as I have no interest in Switch 2 keycard bullshit

If/when I pick this up, it'd probably be on PS5.
I've only played the Nintendo licensed musou games on Switch. Fire Emblem Warriors, FEW: Three Hopes, Hyrule Warriors & Age of Calamity.
They were all fine enough on Switch, but I'm curious how a mainline musou game runs on Switch? I enjoy DW, SW & WO, But it almost feels like they put more effort into their games when it's for a Nintendo property ::sailor-embarrassed

So combining it with expansion Xtreme Legends is a given, it was jarring that on PS2 you could import save into DLC but not the other way around, so once you transferred, you couldn't play main campaigns on the emulator. But will they add more maps? Only problem with original game is that there's only so many levels, DW4 had way more so each character could get a spotlight. I know KOEI love to have bonus areans and costumes from other games as DLC, every DW2 battlefield, for example, was playable in Dynasty Warriors 7 (and is included by default in recent combined version that has all extra content).

DW3 was probably my favorite in the series, though admittedly I only played up to 5. This or 2 are easily the best candidates for updating.

Hope they put the effort into this.
I'm kinda jaded on remasters. Changes made for no reason, content taken out, or just not worth the money since if I want to play something that is remastered I either have it or beaten it before and have no reason to replay it if there isn't something substantial to it.
With emulation being as good as it is, it's rare that it's worth buying something again.

>Unreal engine
And all hype is gone
Why not use you own Katana engine, DW origins looks and runs great
Guess it one of those outsourced projects or cheap project made by b team

Koei you had one job, just make collection of old dw/sw games with high resolution 60fps and widescreen support, that's it

This and Origins seem perfect places to start with the Warriors genre.
Though, despite being from different developers and a different director, I'd really like to a see a remaster/remake of Drakengard, an action RPG which combined Warriors style combat with flight segments reminiscent of Ace Combat. The original game was only a 6/10 due to jank and balancing issues, but I genuinely think that in a world of Soulsbornes, it could make a pretty entertaining contrast. Helps that it actually has a compelling dark fantasy narrative, too.

that's why I don't trust in Fatal Frame 2 (Second) Remake and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black is just Sigma 2 with gore and in Unreal Engine 5

Switch games have tons of slowdowns, Hyrule Warriors is a feast of performance issues, but most of them disappear when you remove the underclock on the console by non official practices. Unleashing the true power of Switch is mandatory to enjoy the device in my humble opinion, even if that means installing a 3rd party modchip just for the overclock.

I am 99% agree with that statement. But surprisingly, Silent Hill F is well optimised game, so it made me not giving up hope on japanese developers :)

I agree completely. There are plenty of remakes released in the past few years that were worse than the original and the only redeeming quality it that the graphics are slightly better. I'll just go back and play the original.

I am hopeful for this, but will have to see what the reviews are like. There had better be a Japanese voice option in the menu.

IF it made by japanese developers, since they using unreal and not their own engine i fear it might be outsourced to some random studio like many recent remasters/remakes
Just wish they made collection of old games and simple remaster not this weird remake thing
oh well guess DW3 going to stay forever on ps2 and never ever going to be ported

The old Dynasty Warriors games had such a different flavor. The modern ones are fun, like Dynasty Warriors 8, but they're so different. In the old games you had to rely on your army more. You weren't a one man army until you maxed out your character and got all the best equipment. You had to fight for every inch on the battlefield and could easily get overwhelmed. Morale actual mattered, your number of kills actually mattered, taking down officers actually affected the battle, and to some extent even your bodyguards mattered. Triggering the right events was important too as if things went south in some stages in Dynasty Warriors 3 you could literally find yourself fighting the entire opposing army alone.

As time went on the series got more and more watered down and the focus became more and more on you being a god who can obliterate the enemy army alone without any help from your own army. Hyrule Warriors epitomizes this. Your army serves no purpose in that game other than constantly needing your help.

Seems as pointless as the RTK 8 Remake.

After all, just like with the RTK series, every Dynasty Warriors is already a "remake" or reimagining. Same general setting, characters, battles etc. This might as well be just Dynasty Warriors 10 but with DW3 customes and music.

The appeal of the old games is that there actually aren't that many enemies on screen and your character isn't *that* much more powerful than the other soldiers and officers. It feels more " even" as a result and like you're just another general fighting in a large battle instead of being a god like in some of the newer games. Looking at the footage so far, it seems they increased the enemy count meaning they miss the point completely.

In other words, this shows all these remakes are basically a marketing trick. The esteem held by the original version is used to pull people in while the end product delivers something very different and misses the essence of the original.

RTK VIII had officer gameplay mode just like VII but had far more content, 9, 10, 11, and 12 didn't, and 13 had it, but was more Total War style game... Out of ALL Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, freeing 8 from being in PS2 limbo and Japanese-only PC PUK version makes the most sense. It's a historical RPG in a series of strategy games. 7 was the same but crappier.

And you can treat Dynasty Warriors as any fighting game, there's a reason some people play Tekken 3 or Street Fighter 2 over newer games... there's appeal in mechanics and balance of specific releases, the roster and nostalgia factor. Plus as you said, you felt the attacks and there was challenge not just spamming special attacks and getting 1000 kos almost every stage.

Cool, can't wait for the Madden '03 remake

What I mean is that there's no point to calling it a remake. They could've just called RTK8 Remake "RTK15" and make it play like RTK8 and it wouldn't have made a difference.

Plus, I never understand this whole "freeing a game from being in PS2 limbo" business. I know some people like to say stuff like this about retro games but emulation exists and is LEGAL. There's nothing to free and used PS2s are cheap as well.

Also, I like RTK7 better because I think it has better combat, graphics and you have more control as a ruler.

Waiting for a Dynasty Warriors 5 remaster next
