SO Dragon Warrior 1,2 and 3 were released Mobile, on multiple handhelds over the years and even on the switch, 3 even got a remaster.. so why no love for part IV? I know 1-3 are a trilogy and IV was the one that was a stand alone, but IMO it was the best one of the NES era. I just wish it would get a little love from Nintendo and be released to play on a modern console.

It's not modern, but IV had a DS version. I would also guess it's more up to square enix than nintendo, as far as what the future holds?

4, 5 and 6 are all on android and ios. They are ports of the DS remakes, the IOS/Android version of IV has the party chat that was missing in the DS version unless modded in. I'm not sure why they haven't re-released the games on any other consoles, it's probably not up to Nintendo though.

Dragon Quest IV, V, and VI are all a part of their own trilogy called the Zenithian Trilogy. I - III are the Erdrick Trilogy. As for the rest of the Dragon Quest series, the connections are muddy. That is why Dragon Quest IV through VI got the DS remakes.

There have been rumors of a HD-2D remake like they did with III and will soon release for I and II. However, the chances of that are slim to none.

In theory, Square Enix could do a rerelease of the original NES version, PSX version, or DS version since they hold the copyright. Nintendo has published Dragon Quest games, especially in the West, but that doesn't mean anything significant. Ultimately, its SquareEnix's decision and knowing how smart they are at business, it will probably never happen.

1-3 and 4-6 are trilogies (3 1 2 and then 6 4 5), but actually ALL the games are actually set in the same universe. This is what happens when you involve Time Travel shenanigans... Hope Dragon Quest XII improves that though.

Thanks guys for all the replies, I honestly didn't know IV was connected to v and vi nor that it had ports to DS or Android.

I will cross my fingers and hope for a 2D HD remake like III got, here's to hoping

And I don't know why I posted this in Nintendo Discussion, I know good and well Square did the games, I wasn't thinking and just had the fact IV was released on the NES on the brain.. I hope a MOD will move this to the correct place, General Gaming Discussion.
Thanks again all

I'm still wondering why Enix didn't wait the SNES to release the fourth title.

I really hope they do an HD-2D remake of the Zenithian trilogy

Oh wow you’ve never played the DS remakes? They are great. I highly recommend playing them. Make sure you get the party chat version that’s on this site or the android version. The graphics are kind of proto hd-2d in that they use 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds and elements. I think the Nintendo discussion board is a fine place for this because the Dragon Quest game you’re discussing is on Nintendo consoles

I think it’s due to install base and dev team experience. DQ3 was massively successful in Japan so when they developed DQ4 they wanted it to be available to all the people that owned a famicom and bought DQ3. You can see in DQ5 on the SNES that the graphics aren’t much better than NES because the team wasn’t experienced with making SNES games. It wasn’t until DQ6 that they made a game that looked just as good as the Square games it was competing with.
