Now, quake 1 at least, is a very atmospheric game; Reznor work on the ost is marvelous, and all the dark fantasy medieval aesthetic mixed with those lovecraftian monsters, makes me feel something unique. I never felt the same with the quake 1 expansions thanks to that, those ost really suck, they're so generic lmao, but as games they're very good.
