Does Conker's Bad Fur Day Still Hold Up?

The N64 version holds up great. The Xbox version on the other hand...does not. It censored a bunch of words like S**t and assh*le, and does not have the local 4 player multiplayer which replaced with Xbox Live with a Halo/COD style War gameplay with no variety.
I agree but personally I find the original N64 to have some of the worst controls for fps games, and since Conker has a couple of segments with those (and in the harder later levels no less) that's a small bonus the XBOX versión has over the original imo

haven't played the game in awhile so as far I'm recollecting, yeah it aged well like in gameplay sense, but I cant say about the story besides its raunchy humor. and also this is the only game I could think of that has an official condom. maybe if the Halo 2 condom is real.

Considering I never see anyone talk about its gameplay, probably not.

I mean I don't see people talk about Iggy Pop anymore doesn't mean he wasn’t good, the popular parts of a game are usually the ones that always get talked about and that was the crass humor.

The difference is, when people talk about Iggy Pop, they usually talk about his music. The fact that people talk more about the game's sense of humor than its gameplay implies, at least to me, that the gameplay isn't good.

Not seeing anyone talking about it and quality aren't intrinsically correlated.

That's your personal experience (which doesn't define everyone else's) and popularity doesn't define quality.

That's an assumption I think. Not talking about something doesn't mean it's necessary bad.

As for myself I dislike raunchy/dirty humour (despite that I find everything watered down to blandness nowadays) but Rareware are good devs that have proven they know how to make quality platformers thanks to DKC and Banjo & Kazooie therefore this game cannot be bad (unless it has the same collectathon syndrome that DK64 had).

From my recent replay of it, hard no. Rare’s lowest point at that period. Almost every other game they made in the 4th to 5th Gen. was leagues above it. Golden eye and banjo are the true rare classics. Conker was just a product of his time.

This is the only game I put any significant amount of time into on my N64 emulator. It's still funny as hell so yes, it still holds up.

Honestly it controls like shit but it's still iconic and well written

Conker Bad Fur Day was my favorite game for years, I must have finished it like a minimum of 7-9 times (I like to have the 3 slots full). I can play that game from memory.

When it got released on the Rare replay I give it another go and, well, it is not bad by no means but it just too linear (besides one of the starting areas where you can chose which area to explore) and doesnt have anything beyond finishing the end of the "level". In contrast Banjo Kazooie/Tooie had items to get, collectionables, etc; BFD pales in comparison. In a positive note the multiplayer is just fire and the script will get more than one laugh, regardless of how many times you have beated the game.

Live and Reloaded is a nice addition, and it shows that most of the difficult of BFD (imo) is because of difficult controllers. Like the graveyard part, on L&R is just a piece of cake, in BFD you are fighting for your life.

I was playing it again and I swear the camera wasn't that zoomed in\close all the time. Makes navigating a bit more trickier than usual.
But I did finish the game years ago and didn't complain so idk.

A XBox with Rare Replay is cheaper than getting a original game cart, yet i'd take the N64 version simply because I don't have to deal with console boot up, game boot up, selection of said game and then dismissing the warning before the game starts.

Ugh, has anyone extracted the game from the collection and then make it run in it's own dedicated program? That's what it needs tbh.

Yep, still a great game

I hesitate to call Conker's Bad Fur Day a great game. It feels like the game lacks cohesion or an identity. Like every section of the game was unused material from another game. I don't think it's bad necessarily. I played through it again a couple years ago and still liked it. It just feels like it has some really bad low points, and it never hits the highs that many of Rare's other games from that generation did. The humor is okay, but some of it just whiffs for me.

Conker is one of those games that has tons of flaws you can nitpick but as an over all experience is just pretty fantastic imo. I enjoy it a lot more than Banjo Kazooie tbh. I actually found Banjo more clunky and frustrating especially when it came to swimming.

Personally, I'd rather still be playing the multiplayer mode in Live and Reloaded with the huge warzones.

Seeing that it takes 2 feet for Conker, a squirrel mind you compared to a bear, to take fall damage...no. Also the shooting section at the war level was hell.
