I am considering buying the MAX version however I want to know it if the battery is good for long trips, and how good is the emulation in general, most of the review videos only do certain DS games. (wrong thread my b)

I own a thor max batch 4.
I play switch, wii u and many other systems but it requires set up with the app obtainium with the emulation pack doing alot of the work with emulators along with telling you when an update is available.

The switch emulator(eden), the wii u one(cemu). the 3ds one(azahar plus), the dreamcast(flycast), ps2(nethersx2 turnip), gamecube/wii(dolphin), xbox(haku and xbox1), vita(vita3k), psp(ppsspp) all allow and I encourage custom drivers to improve performance on the ayn thor and they run pretty good for me and this is me using 4k texture packs on ps2, dreamcast, dolphin, gamecube and graphics mods from cemu.

I even use gamehub to play metaphor refantanzio, elyuden chronicles, that legend of heroes remake game and grimdawn with texture packs with good emulation along with that twilight princess decompilation with the 4k texture pack, the ocarina of time decomp and majoras mask decomp with texture mods with no trouble.

Really the only thing that lags is when I tried that xbox 360 emulator that just came out and ps3 emulation both of which aren't good on android now.

One good tool as well we have is one called clustertune which has built in settings for the ayn thor which allows you to underclock you cpu with settings like large, medium or small overclock which lowers your temps and extends you battery life but depending on what you do the battery life varies but mine right now is at 72 percent and it says 12 hours left and unless you really need the full power of the thor you can keep it large underclocked to save power and keep temp down.

You got any other questions I'll try to answer them.

Thanks, I'll order it today.

I wish I owned one, I'm extremely fascinated with it and its potential!

Love the idea of developers advancing the dual-screen set up when Nintendo abandoned it!

Yeah there needs to be a comeback for fun handheld devices.

I absolutely love being on Android, but setup was brutal. I own an RP5 and it probably took several hours, not including copying files to an SD card. If you are serious Russ' videos are a must watch:

I've had my AYN Thor Pro for four months now. I really like it.

I would recommend the Max if not only for the 1TB internal storage (if that is still a thing... I know that since I got my Thor, the company has made changes). Unless you're really only looking to play games on the GCN/Wii/PS2 era and before, then you're fine unless you want every game ever made on there. lol

1TB internal storage is essential for PC games. Now, I would caution, though, that this device is not ideal for most PC games. Even for less intensive modern games (I mean games like DQXI, not Indies), PC emulation is harder on the system, as it gets hotter and the battery drains a lot quicker. So as long as you understand that PC emulation is going to be pretty limited (Indies and maybe older games should be fine, for the most part), you should be fine.

There are lots of clickbait videos on YouTube about how the AYN Thor and other equivalent devices are now "mini-Steam Decks". Those are annoying. You watch even a minute of those and they drop the facade and say that they play only Indie titles. ::huhsonic

I got a Thor Max when they first came out, and I love it!
Battery life seems solid to me. Also the screens are beautiful, the controls are good, and it can play almost anything I've thrown at it. I play Switch games on it all the time, although it wont play some of the heavier ones too well. Eden works great especially with the custom Turnip drivers. I also use GameNative to play some of my Steam games on it (though I mostly stick to indie games with it) And it goes without saying that older systems are all very playable with the various emulators. I use Eden/PPSSPP/Azahar/MelonDS/Duckstation/Cemu/Retroarch/NetherSX2/Dolphin. I've never tried xbox emulation on it.
Its awesome to be able to play DS/3DS games "the way they were meant to be played" with 2 screens.

Videos like the one linked above and the guides from Joey's Retro Handhelds on Youtube are really very helpful in getting everything set up. Its definitely a bit of a process to tinker with everything to get it just how you want it. But very doable.

Make sure to get a one tb SD card for extra storage and download 7archiver on it as it's an older app that lets you access your Android folder on the main drive so you put texture packs to improve the graphics along with mods for some switch or wii u games like mario kart 8, animal crossing or smash bros ultimate if you got the right version or mario kart or switch on wii u.

For real it took me three days to set up mine and most of my games were already downloaded with texture packs took the longest and I had only a like 4 hours before I had to go to sleep from work on the first two days and it took all day on the third.
