I found a listing for a dreamcast bba converter kit and I wondered how this would work because the only way I know how to get online on dreamcast is either through a real bba or dreampi. The official name is "Dreamcast BBA Broadband Adapter Converter Kit DIY for Sega Dreamcast Console". There is an entire thread on this over at Dreamcast Talk. Yes it gets you bba for cheap. But you need to do some work to get it going. Also, you need an atomiswave board to sacrifice to make this work.

Edit: Apparently, those sacrifice boards are now 100 USD as opposed to ten dollars five years ago. So the mod has likely driven this to the point that an OEM BBA is the better choice both financially and from a labor perspective.
