Which name was better, the original or the change?

For me, i still stand by Bio Hazard over Resident Evil, as the Residents left that Evil a long a** time ago..

Do not get me wrong, i still like and know the game by resident evil in the west, but the below picture says it all, my guy is outside.. :P

Not just Japan too, other countries like in Europe got a different title

For example, Fatal Frame for EU is Project Zero (or just Zero), Fahrenheit to Indigo Prophecy and a lot more

It also happens to a character names sometimes

Bully got called Canis Canem Edit over here in Europe (But reverted to it's original title for the XBOX 360 release)
I’m also not a fan of this. It’s pretty awkward to say even though I know it just means Dog eat Dog (which in itself, is still awkward title. Since “Dog eat Dog” is an expression/idiom, not actual stand-alone phrase. E.g. ‘it’s a dog eat dog world’)

Dragon Quest to Dragon Warrior
Gunbird to Mobile Light Force
Fatal Frame to Project Zero
NJPW Fighting Spirit Legend to Power Move Pro Wrestling

Does Pocket Monsters to Poke-man count?
I am torn, as i want to say yes and the superior name won out. But the history of this goes back to tamagochis and the like, and i am unsure if pocket monsters where their own thing before Pokemon came about.

RayForce got renamed several times so we got it as Layer Section on console then Gunlock in the Europe and Galactic Attack in US Arcade. I find most the later two too generic sounding (even if GunLock can summarise the gimmick of the game with the lock on system but I'd rather hear about Layer Section or RayForce). This is why RayStorm is also called Layer Section II before RayCrisis (subtitled Series Termination on the PSX in the west) got only one name.

Good one! and if i remember right, was it a completely different game? And had nothing to do with Solid on the psx?
It’s a spin off and even Daddy Kohima wasn’t involved in it.

Eretzvaju - EvilZone an obscure PS1 fighting game quite a hidden gem in my opinion.

How could I forgot about Metal Gear Ghost Babel (Jpn) to Metal Gear Solid (USA) for the GBC.
Which made people confused about it being basically a GBC port of MGS like that one cancelled yet impressive Resident Evil 1 port to the GBC?

I'll say it but I think I love that game despite Kojima not being involved (same with MGR).

I feel that people often dismiss when a game is an one off because of the bad ones...

Obscure and i have a copy of this, if i remember right, each fight end and start played out like an anime.

For a while, if i am remembering this right, i thought the game had links to X 1999 and clamp. But i think my kid self may have been dreaming.

X 1999 was another tv show and movie that did not live up to expectations.

Vampire becoming Darkstalkers was probably for the best. The original is so generic that it would not only risk getting ignored, but the trademark problems it would cause would hurt Capcom whether they win or not. Plus the sequel title Vampire Chronicles is associated with Anne Rice in the US. All the character renaming was a bit excessive, though.

Samurai Spirits to Samurai Shodown is the weirdest name change for me. They said it was a word play on "shogun" and "showdown" but not even one single human being except the creator of the name know that it was a pun until it was explained in an interview in 2017. The reasoning behind it is also weird, "SNK’s U.S. distributor said that “Spirits” [from the Japanese title Samurai Spirits] doesn’t really tell the consumer what the game is about." Like, it has "Samurai" in the title, what else do you need to explain? Also. it was originally an arcade game, people can watch the attract mode anytime.
