So I just finished DMC 2 today as Dante, and all I can really say is...wtf did I experience? No joke, why tf is a monster coming out of a giant building, why is a helicopter infected, why is the main villain Heihachi, why is Dante quiet, why is he flipping a coin, what tf are the Arcana, and lastly, where tf am I? Why is Dante teleporting from one area to another without any rhyme or reason?

Anyway, that was my experience throughout the game, safe to say I didn't like it. Was very fucking confusing.

Is DMC2 the one where everything is purple? I remember playing the first one and thinking it was kinda subpar, then trying either 2 or 3 (again, the one where everything is purple) and just figuring it wasn't a series for me.

DMC2 does get rather purple at a point yes.

Game Informer's review header said it was like the equivalent of disappointment that Xenosaga Episode II was

Haven't played through it in a long while but I just remember it being painfully average. Just a big meh. Most of the problems people bring up I don't remember having. Maybe another playthrough is due.

It's just a big "what is going on" when I played it. Plot lines happen out of nowhere. One time I am in the sewers, the next I am in the city, it's just a very confusing game.

I don't remember a thing about the story, so that's probably not a good sign. 😅 Played it sometime around 2008 just after finishing the first game. Good level progression and a coherent plot wasn't really a thing I considered back then. I do like a mindless button masher every now and then so I could probably still get some enjoyment out of it now.

Devil may cry 2 is very important for me, cause it was the first great disappointment I had on gaming. Damn, what a bad game. It was worst in every aspect compared to the first DMC.

I recommend this video talking about how much of a disaster the production of this game was.
But yeah, it was a huge wtf

So question, is this your first time with the series and thus your first time with dmc2? In that case, dmc3 will be like Jesus himself descending from the Heavens
It isn't. I am playing every DMC game with the HD collection. I have finished DMC 1, and now that I have finished DMC 2, I am moving onto DMC 3 (which already is amazing with the combat on the first mission, so I have high hopes).

I assure you that your expectations will be met.

honestly i find it overhated, the melee combat can be fun if you engage with it, now i'm not saying it's necessarily good but some people on the internet act like this game killed their whole family.

DMC 2 vanilla it's bad but not hard, but also not enjoyable, then you apply the Definitive Edition Mod and it's like hearing the "No Prayer for the Dying" album by Iron Maiden, it just suddenly clicks, i mean it becomes better in many ways.
