Perhaps it's due to a combination of many things, such as the darkened arena background, the characters constantly screaming throughout the first phases of the demonstration, and the awkward loading times between each finishing move. The change of tone with the silly Friendships and Babalities later on somewhat helps to alleviate the "creepy" feel of the whole thing, but not by much.
