I bought Diablo 1 from a flea market in Kissimmie FLA (while on vacation, I'm from Ontario Canada) in 1997. One of the first PC games I fell in love with and I have followed the series since. Today I found a PS1 version and was playing it on my psp. Same game but the mechanics and interface are so different it's like finding this game all over again.

Has anyone else tried this?

yeah i have the DevilutionX port on vita

The advantages over PSX:

  • Native, high-resolution graphics. It will render to the resolution of your display, so if you have a 16:9 device, you’ll get native widescreen support.
  • Near zero load times
  • More pleasant looking HUD & UI
  • Fast walk speed in town, as a toggleable option
  • Stash, so that you can share items between your characters, similar to D2 & D3
  • Full controller mapping, including four spell hotkeys

I tried it a few years ago. Oddly enough it has some graphical flourishes the PC original never had like shining gold or your character's reflection in the river. Ultimately I think of it as a novelty moreso than anything else. It just feels so weird to play Diablo without a mouse. There's good reason Blizzard never tried to bring D2 to any console I feel and the PSX port of D1 reflects that.

DevilutionX is a Dream, you can also send your Save Files from one Device to another, so i am playing on my PC and throw it over to my Smartphone and play there with Controller.

The Game plays actually very good with a Controller.

To the PSX Version, it is also the only one that has Dubs to other Languages.
Oh and it is also the PSX Version we can thank for DevilutionX, there was the Commentaries about the Code left XP

Yeah, iirc someone forgot to strip the Japanese version of debug symbols. A silent and unintentional hero.

Man i played so much Diablo 1 on PC when it came out. I mean i had all the 3 characters at the max level and i even killed Diablo with my bare hands lol. Now i end up getting devilutionx on everything i have that it works and everything i find a new console to use devilutionx, i end up playing it for hours again. But regarding the PS1 version, i tried it when i bought a cheap PS1 and although its very different in the interface, since i played devilutionx before with a controller, it felt kinda natural and i ended up playing it from start to finish with the warrior. The only pain is the time it takes to save the game to the memory card.
