Their lore is part of their band personality. Now they're on their 4th clean vocalist. ._.
I think a lot of it is the genre, too. Metal/post-hardcore seems to attract just the worst people and decisions. Blew my mind that they booted Tilian then immediately decided to tour with Falling in Reverse.

I don't even keep up anymore. Was happy to see Kurt's groups album blow away jackpot juicer imo. Hopeful Jonny Craig finds peace in his life. The last few albums they dropped I am not the biggest fan of the mastering and I liked OG acceptance speech despite its issues with that. I enjoyed the wildness on their older stuff more, but thats just me. Also the big world wide suffering of 2020 really damaged a lot of musical artist's reputation for me.
I was just thinking of Dance Gavin Dance just now!!! I've been listening to them ever since I was in middle school but I'll be really glad to see someone infodumping about them so feel free to tell me everything you know about them, I wanna know just about everything about them!!!

So basically they've had now 4 clean singers because of a bunch of bs drama stretching back to their first one. There's a whole meme about Jonny selling laptops because he'd 'sell' laptops he didn't have for drug money. He's doing a lot better now, though.
Their second singer, Kurt, I think left because he wanted to do his own stuff. He's in another band with DGD's lead guitarist(Will) called Royal Coda, which is so sick.
Their third singer(Tilian) had been with them the longest. He was booted/left pretty recently because of some allegations. He left the band temporarily to work on himself but eventually left permanently, and now one of the band's other guitarists is doing clean vocals.
I know way too much and it's a bit parasocial but it's impossible not to be a fan and not know this stuff. Eventually someone infodumps. People get a little too into it and follow every tiny detail constantly. I'll see official band announcements on occasion and that's how I know recent stuff.
Because they've had so many changes in lineup, they have different 'eras' of their music. It's all post-hardcore but Jonny's era has really good vocal melodies(his voice is just really good and it's only been getting better), Kurt's era is really funky, and Tilian's was the longest with a lot of really good albums. His voice is also pretty damn good.
It's the only band I've seen more than once in person. Their current lineup looks promising. Here's hoping Andrew doesn't make bad choices.
But yeah...If you wanna check out specific albums from each era, I'd suggest Downtown Battle Mountain II, Dance Gavin Dance(self-titled, it has the Death Star on the cover), and either Instant Gratification or Mothership.
Thank you for coming to the thread. Hope I was successful in your indoctrination.

And I totally get that. Their albums with Tilian definitely pushed towards more of a 'formula' for success. I'm glad they're still doing Secret Band and other projects for more experimental/different stuff.
Recenty I've been listening to them a lot less. I tend to gravitate towards their albums with Kurt if I'm in a DGD mood. And WISIRO, but I think that's just nostalgia for a simpler time.
Only really kept up with them during those first four albums. Crazy how they have such bad luck with vocalists for how talented they are, but then again, anything with Jonny Craig involved doesn't seem to end well.
