You know, those huge robots, I just love them, I want to look deeper into this niche in games, so if you can, recommend me some games about it, it can be any genre (RPGs, shooters, beat'n ups, tactic RPGs, fighting games) and any platform.

in no order

- zone of the enders 2
- metal wolf chaos xd
- lost planet 1
- titanfall 2
- super robot wars 30
- armored core 6
- mechwarrior 5
- front mission evolved
- robot alchemic drive (only on ps2)
- project nimbus infinity
- megaton musashi w: wired

have fun

Gundam Breaker or Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn if you like Gundam
Super Robot Wars if you like tactical games
Evangelion for the N64
Xenogears has mechs, but I wouldn't call it a mech game (though it's incredibly good)
Virtual On for good arcade battles

These are the less obvious ones that come to mind now

This game is a shoot em up fighting game franchise with huge mechs, but it technically counts

I think the armored core saga is a good reference, you also have games like zone of the enders or gundam.

Liberation Maiden
I second this, but it plays a lot better on actual hardware (believe me, I've tried)

Also, these games technically have you fight mechs for a lot of the bosses, but you don't play as them

Surprised no one has mentioned Assault Suits Valken (or Cybernator), a Super Nintendo classic and one of my favorites. Short and sweet run and gun, not super challenging but extremely fun to play.
For something a little harder i highly recommend Bangai-O on N64 and Dreamcast by legendary developer Treasure. Insane game with one of the most fun and chaotic parry systems in history.
If you want some first person action the Gunfriffon games on the Saturn and PS2 and the Gundam game on Dreamcast are all a good time.

Some 2D mech games:
Cyberbots
Gundam: Battle Assault - aka Gundam: The Battle Master 2
Gundam: Battle Assault 2 - aka Mobile Fighter G Gundam - The Battle + New Mobile Report Gundam Wing - The Battle

Assault Suit Leynos 2
Assault Suit Leynos Remake

Armored Warriors

Xenogears, Xenosaga(especially 3 and please, play it Uncensored can be dubbed or undubbed and not the godawful censored version that we got) and Solatorobo(I must warn you that maybe you can become a furry)

Gundam Battle Tactics
Gundam Battle Royale
Gundam Battle Chronicle
Gundam Battle Universe
Gundam Assault Survive
(Third Person Shooter for PSP)

Daemon X Machina is a fantastic action game somewhere in between Zone of the Enders and Armored Core. Cool art style and mech customization. A bit easier to pick up and play than the AC series but still has some depth.

My favorite mech game has to be the strategy rpg Amored Core 3 for PS1. Nothing like getting lost in that game's moody atmosphere and systems. It's one of those games that you just sink into at like two in the morning and get lost in.

Armored Core For Answer & Another Century Episode 3 The Final Are Incredible
Robot Alchemic Drive & Tetsujin 28 Go Are Really Great too

Warning all of these are Gundam games but a majority of these aren't in this thread so I figured I'd recommend em.

Any of the Gundam VS titles are fantastic. Really good third person arena fighting game with great mechanics. Federation VS Zeon and Gundam VS Zeta Gundam (both PS2 games) are where I'd recommend to start. Great arcade modes and story modes. Loads of unlockables. The Zeta one is awesome with alternate routes that change what happened in the show. There's so many other Gundam VS titles based on different shows or a mashup of everything so it's up to you which one to play but mechanically they're all similar.

Gundam 0079 Side Stories Rise From The Ashes on the Dreamcast. Gundam FPS with squad management mechanics and even has voice acting from some familiar faces most notably Steve Blum! It's a little janky but short and the closest you'll get to a more realistic Gundam game.

Gundam Zeonic Front (PS2) puts you behind the controls of a Zaku and let's you fight on the side of Zeon. It's a little clunky but once you get the hang of it very fun. Third person shooter with heavy squad management, you have to plan out entire routes for your squads in this game. There's also a fair bit of customization in the form of mobile suits, weapons, and parts for your squad members.

Char's Counterattack on the PS1 is surprisingly good for a PS1 Gundam game. Play as Amuro Ray or Char Aznable in fast paced space battles with a basic combo system. Has 2 story campaigns and an arcade mode with unlockable characters. I 100%d the game in a single sitting it's very fun and feels like the foundation for the Gundam VS games.
