Everyone knows the cheat codes in games some are good others can ruin the game but what do you all think about this? Is it okay or is it just that you are not able to finish a game without ? I'll be honest, I use something like that from time to time, but only when I'm really frustrated and can't get any further, some games can be challenging . Tell us about your experiences with Cheat codes?

That's what makes the game more fun to play and discover. GTA SA for example, I'll always use most of these cheat codes almost everywhere I go because…why not?

The last time I seriously used cheats I was 16 or 17, with GTA San Andreas. When a friend of mine made me realize that playing without them were more fun, I stopped using them with any game I played 'till that moment.

some codes are really helpful to 'create' a custom difficulty level, better for your tastes

removing a time counter, adding the autofire, increasing the fire power or reducing the enemies strenght...

when i play Megaman X1...3 Snes i need to use something, especially for the final part :)

Some cheat codes will make the game misbehave or softlock. I remember playing Metal Slug 3 in Anthology, I was using some cheat codes without using invincibility until I was at the Snow cave route, I was stuck in a snowman form, I tried to break free but nothing happened.

For some games it's quite useful to have a "unlock everything" cheat code. Sometimes you already did everything but doesn't have the save file, other times there is locked content behind modes you don't care about. (for exampe, unlocking characters in a VS. roster from beating a single player campaign)

I heard some of them messes up the Madd Dogg mission because he'll kill himself immediately before you could save him. Plus, each time you try to save the game after using cheats will always gives you a warning about it.

You reminded me of Banjo-Kazooie. Some of the cheat codes related to the game progress are considered "too powerful", and if you input one for the third time the antagonist of the game will ask you to confirm your choice as in order to do that you'll have to pay with your save file.

All those poor kids who couldn't read english.

When I'm using an emulator I definitely will use them if they're available for some games just to experience being invulnerable but for some games it can break it, so I just do without them if it's like that.

Cheats can be fun, but I usually try to only use them once I've finished a game without them at least once.
I think my earliest memory of a cheat that did more than just making you invincible or giving you unlimited lives or whatever would be these "how do you turn this on" suckers from Age of Empires 2:

Nothing like breaking a Berber camel charge using a vintage car.
