An ancient game that travelled the ages.

What's the best opening to you?

I'm not very familiar with all the names, but I often stick to King's pawn as my opening move, and my most common opening play is the Queen's Gambit rejected.

I don't know if this is a serious thread, maybe it derailed into utter silliness , but I'm not familiar enough with the game to comment on it.

I've always been curious about the game, though.

Probably the most paralyzing fundamental for me is how to use knights properly.

Although I like it, I'm seriously terrible at it( i usually lose to level one cpus ), I have far more experience and skill in Backgammon and Reversi and other tactical boardgames.

I wonder what's a good entry level Chess video game. I know Chessmaster by name.

Easiest way to get into it would be either lichess (a free chess program) or chess.com (Free to play but you can buy extra shit that's not necessary)

For anyone who plays, hit me up sometime we'll play a few games together I've got an account on both, and I'm not very good so it's not like you're going up against a pro lol

I know this runs counter to the traditional game but it looks interesting.

If we're gonna get a little crazy with it this one is good:

That looks interesting as hell. Gonna check it out I think.

It depends on who you play with and what kind of strategy you will follow:

For brute attack bishop is nice. I use rooks as defense then. Or late in the game you may use rooks as attacker and bishop as defender of rooks.

Knight is good for checkmate and causing diversion and early chaos.

However the most important piece is pawn, they may be seen as easy to sacrifice pieces however even 2 of them can take down a king. If your opponent underestimates your pawns then the game is basically over in your favor lol.

Queen can be unleashed in very early part of the game with bishops, or an her own as kamikaze attack. It depends on you.

Tip 1: Chess is a game that you play according to what move your opponent made and what move they may make. It means instead of deciding what you should do you mostly calculate what your opponent may do. In this context my favourite opening is moving one of the bishop and then taking it back to where it was until I see a weakness in my opponent by analyzing their opening and what is their first strategic choice.

Tip 2: Why pawns are important is a topic of a book but mostly importantly it's because where pawns are controls the entire game, because of it take many pawns as you can the better for you. In that context gotta divide pawns into small squads that cover each other's ass early on in the game, thus you can use unnecessary pawns as bait and place intentional openings by moving pawns farther away for traps. For example Knights are great partners of pawns that can hunt the pieces that pawns have trapped.

Pawns acts as shields and attackers, thus via pawns you can create safe zone for pieces you don't wanna lose. Via pawn squads you can create a checkpoints that your pawns cover the asses of Knight, Rook and Bishop for example.

Tip 3: Chess is a "zone" game, meaning the more space your oppenent can move the more you will be in a disadvantage therefore move your pieces by creating a safe line further away near your oppenent as much as possible by pressing their zone to reduce their safe zone. Thus they will have to sacrifice more pieces and even a Queen can be hunted with pawns.

Very nice tips. Space control and area denial is a commonality Chess and Go share, now that I think about it.

Thanks. Despite all these common knowledge and personal experience often how you gotta play depends on how your opponent plays. Because of this on the surface learning opening moves and some general tips may matter which often mostly work on new players but for experienced players things always go out of unusual way that the game calls for a creative approach. Then all there is to say is always being on the lookout for seeing opportunity even in your bad state during the game and never being stubborn on following a particular plan in your head. Gotta start with lots of plans that you switch as you need as you play the game. Chess is a strategic game but also a tactical game that what kind of strategy you gotta follow depends on the current tactical need therefore gotta be like water and flexible like a cat!!! lol

Yeah being flexible is key by the looks of it. An infinite world in 64 squares; kind of daunting haha.
