I feel like I've played the ones that get recommended the most that interest me, what can you suggest outside of them?

Recommend any 90s arcade beat em ups that you think are decent. They're short games after all, so I'm looking for quantity here.

I don't often see people mention Sengoku 3 - super in-depth combat system for the time, great visuals, definitely underappreciated these days.

Aside from that... I'm a pretty basic bitch when it comes to Beat 'em Ups. Night Slashers, Alien vs. Predator, Knights of the Round, Punisher, maybe Armored Warriors - I mostly play that same old famous stuff.

-Metamorphic Force (Arcade)
-Battletoads (Arcade)
-Rastan 3 :Warrior blade (Arcade)
-Violent Storm (Arcade)
-Ninja baseball Batman (Arcade)
-Panzer Bandit (Ps1)
-Mutation Nation (Arcade/Neo Geo)
-Sengoku 1 - 3 (Arcade/Neo Geo)
-Nightslashers (Arcade)
-Ninja Warriors again (Snes/PC)
-Double Dragon Returns (Snes) ( More or less known )

Lesser known and arcade specifically:
Captain Commando (Arcade) (play as the ninja)
Combatribes (Snes version though, the arcade version is not balanced well)
Metamorphic Force (Arcade)
Vendetta (Arcade) - this is very overlooked. Konami, 4-player, lots of weapons, can hit downed enemies

I can recommend more for consoles as well.

The only lesser known 90s beat 'em ups that I know of are the Crime Fighters trilogy (CF1, Vendetta, and Violent Storm) and those are usually recommended for people new to the genre.

Literal Rocking Music, unique combos for a simple two button beat em up and all the uncensored ketchup of the more liberal 90's, if you don't want to bother trying to play the Arcade one (As someone that has lots of games in his MAME i don't reccomend it) there is a Console Remake

(TRANSLATION: Ghost Chaser Densei) The game has a Fighting game-esque combo system that makes the game more complex than just "Wait for an opening and mash A until enemy is knocked out, Rinse and Repeat" Totally worth your time, oh, and there is a English Patch if you desire to know the story

The entire Rushing Beat trilogy is a blast, basically Irem's response to Streets of Rage, the first one is mid but not unplayable, is the sequels where the game has its spark, that say PLAY THEIR ORIGINAL JAPANESE VERSIONS since the USA versions gut parts of the games

And lastly Sonic Blast Man 2, the first one, pass, its a drag to play with the only novelty being having a minigame based on the Arcade game the main character is based on, the second one is where the meat lies, solid gameplay with interesting combos, shorter stages with far more varied meanie roster, a nice time killer

Never played the first game, but I guess its 2nd game is more popular for "reasons". It was fun and all but the homosexual enemy type is why it was a popular funny meme game lol. And then 3rd game looks like my tshirts my mamma over-washed lolol.

Edit: Damn the video of the "homosexual enemy type" in 2nd game is so censored cannot directly and easily watch it but this link may work: Link

-Undercover Cops
-Hook
-Ninja Baseball Batman
-The Ninja Kids
-Violent Storm
-Growl
-64th Street
-Asterix
-Eight-Man
-Gaipolis
-Metamorphic Force
-Robo Army

Play Guardians!! (Denjin Makai 2). that game is absolutely incredible and way better than its predecessor imo.

I recently finished Mighty Final Fight on the NES and that was a fun romp. Also, Gourmet Sentai Barayaro on SNES is really interesting.

Being a kid of the 80s/90s, I mostly prefer 16 bit style beat em ups. I have a very nostalgic remembrance of Altered Beast. Restraunt visted often with my grandma had a cabinet. I easily dropped several hundred dollars in quarters in that cabinet over the years. Number 2, Gauntlet. Same story, but at ShowBiz Pizza with my dad (he used to play with me, probably only reason I remember. He wasn’t around; haven’t seen to heard from him since I turned 17 :( ). TMNT and Simpsons. They were EVERYWHERE locally. Always played Mikey and Bart. There is a pizza place close to me that still has a Simpsons cab.

The two odd ball ones. Ninja Baseball Bat Man and… Cowboys of MooMesa.

No one else mentioned Cowboys of MooMesa?

You have to use mame to play it currently. Hopefully someone eventually ports it to FPGA (preferably Analogue Pocket). There was a Saturday Morning cartoon in the early 90s.

I'd say cowboys of Moo Mesa was more of a run and gun than beat em up, more contra and sunset riders than TMNT or X-Men.

It is a really fun game tho. Bucky O'Hare is another Konami arcade run & gun like that was really good.

Okay, let's go fairly crazy here
I remember playing this years ago long before it was every translated and it's pretty bizarre even today. It's sort of like Cho Aniki where you can do all sorts of combo moves, but you also pick up food ingredients, which I was never sure what they did

which I was never sure what they did
You use them for cooking and eat up duuuuuuhhh!!! lol

Seriously though at the end of each level ingredients you collect determines what you can cook. By choosing right ingredient combination to cook particular food you eat determines your health for the next level and you may even get some power-ups. In this context it does add replayability for the game. I "slightly" remember not every food causes the same effect for every character though. It been a long time since I played it.

Metamorphic Force (Arcade)
Thanks, I went through this yesterday. God it's fun, it felt like a spiritual successor to X-Men!
-Battletoads (Arcade)
-Violent Storm (Arcade)
Battletoads is one of the biggest Arcade beat em ups at this point, I love it! Violent Storm I've played, but it's great and needs more attention, so thanks.

Here's some examples of some lesser known fighters that I've played:

Violent Storm

Metamorphic Force

Armored Warfare

Zero Team

You need the food itens to create recipes that will heal your HP on a determinate amount according to which recipe you made.
There's also a hack that makes you heal a bit by using the pose button on the game, maybe it's also on Repo
I think this system would be way cooler if the recipes buffed some of your stats or gave specials abilities, like River City Ransom

Dynamite Dux. You can play as little ducklings that use machine guns, grenade launchers and flamethrowers
