I think you're gonna want to be a bit more specific than that when it comes to PC games. It's not like with most consoles, there's just way too many worthwhile games on the platform.

Any genre preference? Or like a cutoff date for how old they can be?

SimCity 2000 and Streets of SimCity (you can build cities in SimCity 2000 and then drive around in first person in your own cities and blow up other cars like in Twisted Metal.)

The Longest Journey, point-and-click adventure set in a (not so much) futuristic New York, where a young painter will discover a way to go to a fantasy world. It's a beautiful story about loss and family, graphics are a bit old (release date is around year 2000) but if you don't mind them I strongly recommend it. It's one of those games I saw-and-buy, I had the big boxed physical version, four cds and a huge user manual.

Edit: I saw your edit only now, but I leave my always-recommended title here anyway.
If you're into old games, I remember two rpgs: "Sudeki", action battles with four characters, and "Zanzarah", Pokemon-like game with fairies instead of monsters and real-time action battles into arenas, and a huge medieval-fantasy world to explore, with forests, cities and villages, cloud kingdom, swamps, and creatures like goblin, elves, etc

Well, a game I played and really enjoyed lately was Look Outside. You can find it on Steam. RPG maker stuff, but it's one of the transformative ones.

There's a lot of content and different things to experience, such that if you're going in blind, there'll be a lot of stuff you never knew was there the first playthrough. And it's the kind of game where knowledge of where things are and what choices to make can really change how you interact with it on other playthroughs.

Helps that the game is getting content updates. Last one was fairly recent, and it added a bunch of things. Soundtrack and visuals are fantastic, and it does cosmic horror pretty good.

Won't say any more, spoilers are to be avoided in a thing like this.

Lemmings.
Pandemonium!
Doom
Duke Nukem 3D
Quake
Half-Life
Need for Speed: Underground 2

The Half-life series. They've been on consoles, but never that well. The latest game is VR-only, but is considered sort of a spin-off.

Half-life 1 and its expansions Blue Shift and Opposing Force have received an update for the 25th Anniversary. They work great on modern systems and have fairly low requirements.

Half-life 2 & episodes have also been updated last year, low system requirements, and the games are still lookers in my eyes.

Black Mesa is the fan-remade version of the first HL. This looks so awesome and is a great positive experience after going through the original. Not sure which version I like best.

You can get the Half-life collection from Steam for a pittance in every sale there is, and Black Mesa itself goes for half-price sometimes. None of them are expensive.

Left 4 Dead 2, is a great shooter to try out, that's without mentioning the mods from the workshop.

Another shooter I would personally recommend is 007: Quantum of Solace, though there's other PC 007 games to enjoy as well.

Racing games may not be your forte, but if your looking, the Need for Speed Games, the older ones, are top notch. If you want a pure arcade racer to have fun with, Outrun 2006: Coast 2 Coast is your go to.

Thief: The Dark Project

RPGs huh? Chained Echoes is one that gets little attention, yet is pretty darn good.

Oh, and you can't go wrong with Fallout New Vegas.

not a recent one, but i love Jazz JackRabbit 2
powerful tunes, smooth graphics

Boy, do I have the games for you! F.E.A.R. (ignore the sequels!), the Half-Life series, Hotline Miami 1 and 2, the Metro series, Titanfall 2... there's a ton of good stuff around. I'm not much of an RPG player, but I hear Planescape: Torment and the Baldur's Gate games are stellar. Given that I'm also a massive plane nerd, I'd also recommend Project Wingman and Ace Combat 7.
